Nylander is not a top 2 line player. Relying on that would be a huge leap of faith with an extremely high chance it leaves the team in a bad place.

Everyone on this board would be lambasting the new GM and Sullivan for thinking Nylander could play with Malkin.
TBD. The grief about him was attitude and defense, and he seems to have solved that based on this year in Wilkes and with us.

Seems like he can hang offensively? Plus if Nylander continues this solid defensive and possession play, that will make L2 less of a liability defensively like it was with ZMRak.
Dropping a good winger to L3 may provide a bigger net gain for the team, which is more important than Malkin's points imo.
I'd prefer Nylander to have a quality Center help him gain traction at this level again. Would be good for his confidence. I liked the looks he was generating and L2's metrics while he was there.
We were getting good L3 results with Rakell there too.

Besides, I'm just talking about a season opener roster. Give him 10+ games there. See what happens. The balanced lines may yield the best results.

UFA that I could see being good bang for our buck is Donato. 29 ES goals in the last 2 seasons, in only like 12 minutes of ice time. Still on the younger side by our standards, only made $1.2 mill last year, I think he signed that deal as a UFA. He’s just kinda OK at everything but his offense hasn’t really panned out like expected based on his college career and that Olympics he had. Maybe just a Heinen replacement, but one that’s a better fit and more versatile.

Oh decent in the shootout too.

Arizona Coyotes Acquire:
2019 4th round pick (BUF - #98 - Matias Maccelli)
2019 5th round pick (TBL - #151 - Aku Räty)
2019 7th round pick (PIT - #207 - Valentin Nussbaumer)

Pittsburgh Penguins Acquire:
2019 3rd round pick (CHI - #74 - Nathan Légaré)

Oof. That 4th was the one we got from Buffalo for Hunwick and Sheary.

? DOC did nothing to deserve more than 4th line minutes and was consistently in the lineup. Dude looks like he’s got the offensive acumen similar to a Carl Hagelin - maybe.

I hate these comparisons/what if scenarios. There's zero guarantee the Pens would've picked Maccelli.

Dude shouldn’t of had to fight for a spot on the 4th line to start the year and ended the year one of the better of the bottom 6.

He deserved a chance to develop. Sullivan doesn’t let guys develop he benches them for vets

The bad defense from L2 had mostly to do with Zucker, who was extremely streaky last year, and has been his whole career. One thing that's not streaky is his bad to terrible defensive play. When he's not on a hot streak, he's hurting you. Same thing with Rust, but at least he was somewhat complementary to Zucker in the O zone and on the rush, although he's another terrible defensive player.

Zucker and Rakell certainly are not complementary players, but that's on Sullivan for putting them together so much.

Oh, I know. I'll be the first to admit that. I was just cruising through old trades where we paid to get rid of guys to see if anyone turned into anything. This one was a bit more obscure but I thought it was funny.

Don't look up who was selected with our 1st that got us Perron. Especially if you're an Oilers fan. Lol.

Summer stuff dude.

Agree. I'll believe it when I see it. Any new GM in a normal organization is firing the previous coach.

But FSG will prefer hiring a yes man soy boy who admires Sully and will gladly answer to him. Sully still runs the organization.

The absurdity on this board is downright astounding sometimes.

Al Arbour won a ton of Cups in the past. I guess the Isles should dig him up and prop him up behind the bench since past accomplishments seem to mean to much to current day.

Yes, I remember watching Al Arbour coach the Islanders too. But here's the thing about past accomplishments, they did occur & the guys who did them weren't idiots.

You've got the tense correct. Sully certainly wasn't an idiot a half-decade ago.
But that doesn't preclude people from becoming idiots due to ego and other factors.

It's cute though that you're going to die on this hill.

"During 5-on-5 play, Rust had the right process. He put himself in the right positions, did the right things, and simply did not always get rewarded for it.

Uhhh...what games what he watching? Rust was the laziest person on the ice every time he was on it. One rush up the ice, one giveaway, and zero effort to try and back check.
