Let’s see how fun it is when we don’t get a Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin after 3 seasons.

I was simply making the best of a bad situation with little hope of getting better. Being mad about it sure didn't help anything. So you might as well have a goof.

Trust me I'm in no hurry so long as those two aren't the problem. And they aren't.

It's incredible to me that so many still don't seem to realize how stupid-lucky this team is and how rare those two are as talents and people. The chances of seeing even one of a comparable caliber the next 10-20 years is rather slim. Much less two.

Can Elias Lindholm play RW? And is he as good as his points totals seem to indicate?

His success has largely been because of his play at C.

He's like a ROR without the grit.

Maybe you get similar talents but look at how none of the teams that got them have any cups outside of Tampa.

Since 13-14 the Art Ross winners and Hart Winners have combined for one cup.

I guess I would sum up the Bad Times as such:

People were truly stoked for like weeks that one time Ryan Malone scored a pretty goal. Actually I'm betting anyone who watched even knows the one I'm talking about. A goal that even a guy like Rakell probably scores like five or six of every year. Shit was that dire.

Milan Kraft scored one time by changing the angle of his blade at the last second and Errey nearly shit his pants on air.

DOC really came on last year and I think Poehling is really going to surprise a lot of you next year.

He has the pedigree. Really like his game. One of the main guys I am excited to see take a step next season

Also re Poehling, I thought he showed a real deft passing touch at times. He's willing to go the tough areas. I'm low on his IQ but the tools are there and to a certain extent, manic energy can substitute for IQ on an athlete like him
One of Poehlings better attributes is his hockey IQ. It makes up for his lack of speed but his positioning has been solid in what I am watching. His IQ has been solid at all levels of play so far.

He's made some great plays last season

Truth of the matter is this team needs guys like DOC and Poehling to work out so we don't have so many holes to fill. I think they are totally capable and can definitely help this team more than many of you think.

You only have so much money to go around those guys are solid stays if you ask me. Spend elsewhere

Yeah, DOC is a priority RFA for this team. Big, in his athletic prime, and he can skate. Showed flashes at times and left me thinking "I wish he'd get some more minutes". The ability to create your own breakout is something this team desperately lacked last year, and he's one of the few guys on this roster that can actually do that.

The hands and lack of in zone creativity probably prevent him from getting a look in the top 6 but I think he has the potential to continue to carve out a role on L3.

Lack of speed? He had the highest measured speed of any player last year with 24.32mph..

If DOC signs a 2 year deal I assume he becomes an UFA once it is over? He should be easy to lockup, he doesn't have a ton of leverage. Just a question if it is a 1 year deal with a smallish pay rise or they look at locking him in for 2 or 3 years but have to pay for the potential upside.

What is probably just as informative as hits, blocked shots, etc. As long as there is no standardized measurement/counting in these areas, I would not rely on such values.

I never had the impression that poehling was slow from what I saw but I also didn’t watch that much this year so…

Coming into the league he wasn't said to be the fastest guy but his IQ and hockey sense more than made up for it.
What he was, and what he is now doesnt really need to be the same, and the fact that he was the fastest player on the ice in the league this year should indicate he has more than enough speed. High IQ and sense is a positive no matter what though.

Remember when Aleksey Morozov scored a late game winner and celebrated by skating around holding up the Penguins crest on his jersey? I think I may have shed a tear.

He basically scored that same goal in OT two games in a row. I think I was at the jersey tug game. Too bad he didn't return from Russia post-lockout.

It would have been wild to see what Mozo's role could have been on that improving post-lockout Pens team. That being said, staying in the motherland was probably the right move for him, I seem to recall he was basically the first true star of the newly-formed KHL.

One of the my favorite memories... god I wanted that guy to work out and really take off here, it felt like he was right on the cusp. Sadly... off to Russia he went, never to return.

The best thing this team can do in 5 years or whenever, is to suck top 5 in the league for about 3 years. Not 5, 6, 7 years straight. Get 3 top 5 picks and grab your C's or top D. Then go big game hunting with the 70+M in cap space you SHOULD have each year - along with future 1sts if necessary. Even if it takes a bit longer - that hunt would be exciting around here so long as we're not wasting assets and space on absolute mids.

Those pushing to get there need to realize that a single Sid or Malkin figure is extraordinarily rare in the NHL.....let alone 2. The next-next era (here's to hoping to a new 5 year era this Summer) is going to look different here.
