Errey is fantastic.

Anyone claiming otherwise- or stating they watched or listened to other teams is probably a fan that catches 8 games a year.

I've been forced to watch opposing broadcasts before due to travel and ridiculous TV restrictions and I would debate anyone who doesn't have Errey in the top 5 NHL TV personalities. What absurd and spoiled comments I'm seeing.

As for the radio guys give me a break. Now instead of hearing Errey call a bad call what it is, we can hear 29er bitch about it for the next 3 or 4 mins? I'm going to watch regardless - maybe less like this year if Sully is at the helm... But wtf. Mears could have gone away based on his annoying vanilla takes but that's what TV requires these days.

Despite me thinking that nothing will change as long as Sullivan is coach, I'll try to come up with my ideal off-season for this team. Here would be the general outline of my plan:

1. Get more finishing talent to play with Malkin.
2. Push Rust to L3 and have him carry L3.
3. Get a defensive D to play with Letang
4. Have a goalie platoon instead of a starter and backup
5. Get a new 3C and push Carter to low minutes, faceoff specialist 4th liner

Here's what I'd do:

-Granlund, POJ and a 3rd to Vancouver for Boeser at $5 million.
-Re-sign Zucker to a 5x5 deal.
-Get rid of DeSmith.
-For your 1A goalie, sign Varlamov to a $3.5 million AAV deal. Trading for Fleury is a backup option for this in case Varlamov retires or re-signs with the Islanders.
-For your 1B goalie, sign a younger UFA like Hill or Korpisalo for likely around a $3 million AAV deal.
-For Letang's partner, sign Graves to a $4.5 million AAV deal.
-For your 3C, I'd actually inquire with Toews and Staal to get an idea of their plans. Toews is definitely hitting free agency, but I don't know if he intends to retire or not. Just for the love of Christ, do not give them a Carter type of contract. Keep it 1 year at like $2.5 million or so.

Guentzel-Crosby-Rakell
Zucker-Malkin-Boeser
O'Connor-Toews-Rust
Poulin-Poehling-Carter
Hallander-Puustinen

Graves-Letang
Pettersson-Petry
Smith-Rutta
Ruhwedel

Varlamov-Hill

This lineup leaves a lot of open spots for young forwards in the bottom-6, but those spots can be addressed later in the year if any of the young guys can't lock down the 3LW or 4LW spots.

The thing is he actually throws in real pieces of hockey facts to his color commentary. He is super underrated for his obscure hockey knowledge and random callbacks to the 80s and 90s. Errey is a silly guy and comes off as ridiculous but he is somehow also sharp and knows his shit.

You can call him a homer which he is but for God's sake it's a local broadcast.

He also knows a lot of the obscure rulebook stuff. I will always remember that game where NYR won in the shootout and the players headed into the locker room, but then they called them back on the ice to re-do the shot. Errey called the non-goal perfectly.

Josh Getzoff didn't share a locker room with Mario. Vanilla at best.

Um no thanks.

None of them.

How were none of their issues addressed?

They're pushing Rust to L3 and adding a legitimate 3C who can survive in the usage Sullivan gives his 3rd line. They're getting a more reliable goalie tandem. Those were like 2 of their absolute biggest issues last year.

Well if the Penguins get Bowman as their GM, you know that Toews is coming as well to be their 3C.
What do you mean Toews for 3C? We've got Granny locked in for 2 more years at 5 million and a 20 point per season pace. HCMS says he works hard and PKs real good.

I want no part of Stan Bowman near this team. If FSG does that I'll be extremely pissed and disappointed.

I'm intrigued with Tulsky, hoping it's him at the moment.

Dubas might be ok but don't think really think it's a step in either direction.

Stan Bowman? This has to be a f***ing joke, right? Didn't he help coverup the Kyle Beach rape incident? He's a shitty GM and a shitty human being. If he even get an interview because that's what Sullivan wanted, then it's just another reason to f***ing can Sullivan.

I hope Friedman is just talking out of his ass. Not only has Bowman been a shit GM for 7+ years, hes a shit person that covered up rape. f*** him

I can see @Better Call Maul pulling a "Yeah X is flying right now but do you know about his tweets in 2017 when he was 10?"

Maybe because when you're a poc you don't get the benefit of saying, I don't know, let's use Binnington as an example - saying xenophobic and racist shit at 18 and older and still having a career.

Maybe I'd like the same rules all across. Or hey treat them like how they treat us and see how that works.

Weird that blokes here mock me for that without understanding how frustrating it is living your entire life dealing with stereotyping and racism.

I think we are on the same page. All of those were issues coming into last season that weren't addressed.

A impact player that should have moved Rust down to L3.

A defensive D man to shore up the defense.

Some stability at the goalie position.

These were all issues coming into last season correct?

Feel like every GM search accompanies a “Chiarelli/Pierre McGuire/etc” name being thrown out as a favor to that person. As I said earlier, Bowman feels like the exact opposite hire FSG would make.

Stan Bowman would be a legit Pens type of hiring without caring about how it looks.

Also anyone they hire I am curious how much freedom they would have to do the right thing. Because if a new gm comes in and doesn't ship out some of the problematic "surrounding core" types, then it's just another mouth piece that is here to do just make Sully comfortable and then fall on his sword when the coach fails every single move of his.

Oh I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you meant those were the same issues we had last year and none of them were being addressed with what I proposed.

@dogthateats @Better Call Maul do you guys have plans for next season?

Demote Mears, replace him with Getzoff. Hire TK and fire Errey.

Oh you mean team wise? Why bother. I literally don't give a shit about any player moves anymore. I couldn't tell you who I want on this team or which prospect I'd like to see given a chance anymore. Why waste that energy?

Would we have had an impact player in the system or on the team that could have moved a player down? We might have and the coach misused or didn't use them.

That was the bigger issue. I don't think we started the season as a bad team on paper. The coach played some real Bylsma shit with the roster and it turned into a mess. They played sloppy to start and to finish and a lot of the roster was changed at the half way point with the same limp to the finish.

Somehow that meant it was a player issue and not a coach issue.

Interesting, that.

What I would like to see.

-Step 1: Go golfing the first week of July. No good decisions are made during that time. Let everyone else use up their cap space. Take advantage of bargain deals after. Do not try building through free agency.

-Step 2: Build through trades. We've seen guys like Meier and Chychrun get acquired. Guys who are still young and provide actual impact. Not to mention the return for them was far less than people thought. As long as you have the cap space.

-Step 3: New coach but that's been talked to by death.

In summary build through trades, add complementary pieces through UFA at bargain prices.
