I see it two ways. Either Nashville didn’t want to move him and we had to overpay, in which case Nashville would be happy to take him back even if it’s for nothing, or Nashville was actively trying to move him and the bidding reached a 2nd (from a bubble team), in which case it’s not lower than a 3rd in the offseason because, yes, he played poorly, but also the possible destinations doubles in the summer (because EVERYONE is building a playoff-hopeful team).

I think the truth is the latter. Nashville is doing a rebuild on the fly and even might’ve accepted less just to move Granlund quickly at the deadline rather than wait for the summer. We might have to wait too, like until after free agency and the teams losing out o Zucker or Barbashev have to settle for Granlund.

My guess is the Pens FO liked him so much they contacted Nashville and Nash said they’d do it for a 2nd and Hextall said ok. I don’t think it was anything more than that…I doubt given the incompetence of our FO that they even tried to negotiate down, especially on the cap hit

There was no bidding war on Granlund just like there wasn’t one for Carter. Hextall negotiated against himself.

According to Yohe, I know, a couple GMs laughed when they saw the deal.

I know this is an unlikely scenario because of who the idiot coach is, but instead of moving out Granlund (and possibly have to pay a draft pick to do it) why not try him -- novel concept -- on a scoring line to see what we've got?

I know this would rely on Sullivan actually thinking outside the box instead of burying the third line in D-zone usage, but since he loves pairs so much go with Jake/Sid/Rak, Geno/Rust, Zucker/Granlund as the top three lines? Try and land a good fit for Geno/Rust in free agency, then play either DOC or Poehling with Granlund and Zucker to add a bit o size to the line.

Pretty insane that Matheson got his career high in points in 48 games, playing for Montreal no less.

Petry ended up matching Matheson's 31 points from last year in 61 games, although with only 5 goals.

No real fan wants a homer who does nothing but cheerlead, but Bourque's "I (pretend to) tell it like it is no matter what" phony persona is briefly enlightening only for clueless fans who've never watched a hockey game before. Or who think that the current head coach is the greatest thing ever -- like Bourque does.

At least Errey is entertaining albeit a bit goofy at times.

And if I never hear Getzoff's vapid "A PPG for PGH!!!" call ever again it will be a life well spent. No mere mortal was ever going to replace the legendary Mike Lange, and I get that the Pens wanted to get younger and hipper (LOL) for the "new breed" of fans with Getzoff, Metzer, the useless Michelle what's-her-name and some others, but did they really have to start out by scraping the bottom of the barrel?
