I still think Smith would have been better than POJ this year, despite me thinking POJ had a solid season on the overall.

I agree which was another issue with Hextall. Why keep Chad around and cap strap the team so Smith can't play.

Smith was playing pretty good on the right side with the corpse of Dumo on the other.

Because there is no reason you should have to buy out a guy you traded a 2nd for 6 weeks ago.

Sure but who takes him without an asset coming back? Just cause hextall is a moron doesnt mean another gm will be

If Granlund is worth a 2nd at the deadline 2 months ago he’s worth like a 3rd at the draft 2 months from now. The off-season doubles the candidate pool compared to the deadline.

Sullivan wouldn't have even played him anyway, so I don't think that's a valid criticism of Hextall.

Another GM took back McGinn and Kapanen for basically nothing.

No other GM would pay a 2nd for Granlund obviously, but I see nothing to support the idea that his value went from a 2nd to paying a 2nd to get rid of him in 6 weeks.

his value or lack thereof has to do with his cap hit relative to what he provides, not just about him as a player….most GMs won’t have $5M in cap space for him…the clubs that have the cap space weaponize it and charge fees for it…just reality

There will be way more GMs who have that cap space in the off-season than they would at the trade deadline, though.

I would be surprised for Granlund to bring back anything more than like a 5th, but I don't think his value is even close to a 2nd to get out of his deal. I think he's like Kapanen where he wouldn't make it through waivers.

Kap was a unique situation with the Blues trading pieces at the TDL and taking chances (positively) with him and Vrana…his salary was cheaper than Granny and a lot cheaper at the deadline…the Pens might be able to trade him For something if they wait until the deadline…but I don’t want to wait lol

You guys are insane. Granlund is worth nothing. He’s an anchor contract and GMs literally laughed about that deal.

I think you're gonna have to attach a 2nd or a prospect to Granlund and the best return you can really hope for is an equally bloated contract, but expiring after the season. /shrug

Dude sucks shit. He shouldn't have been a target, let alone acquired. No way this team should mess around with buyouts though. They f*** themselves with the cap regularly enough. We saw how shitty JJ's buyout penalty has been for a team tight against the cap.

I let Zucker walk... He will demand 6 mil or more.. Gonna have to trade Rust ridiculous contract and Granlund. There are ways to get rid of Jeff Carter, Fenway Bunch will lose money. Try to find younger defensemen and let Dumo walk. Prob have to resign Jarry.. maybe not.

5 million is the going rate for a player like Granlund. See Rust, Rakell, Zucker, Schwartz, Eberle.

He’s a 2nd liner. Hell, he’s still Nashville’s 4th highest scoring forward.

It is ridiculous the crap contracts that this team has allowed to go on with some of these players. Sell them while you can.

They have young defenders they will have to play Smith and PoJ
Only have to trade rust or grandlund. Carter is going to eat nachos next year

Luckily we have vets to pair POJ & Smith with, and ideally a better and more insulating system.

You think he is gona play fedun over him? Like you dont give him the options. Hextall bloaded this lineup with a bunch of nothing which made it easy for sully.

Dont sign Chad, dont sign heinen or archibald.

dont give him an option not to play DOC, Smith, hallander to start the year. That is a hextall fail.

Hallander could have started the year in place of Archibald and DOC instead of Heinen. See what you have and get depth at the deadline if you need it.

I would look for younger defensemen on the market for depth... They are bringing up Pickering next season, not sure when they will use Him.

He wasn’t worth a second, that’s how much our trash front office paid.
Never know what kind a of value 2nd round draft pick you might get... lousy trade.

I mean he played Friedman over Smith, so I wouldn't be surprised with anything.

True but still. Ruh played 47 games this season.

Friedman 23
Smith 9

These crap players should not be continually resigned but thats all hextall did. Friedman at least brought something different to the team like Smith would have.

The amount of bullshit excuses for our season is mounting up at this point.

Jarry was injured.
Hextall.
Sully wanted to play youth.
No Lemieux.

Mike Sullivan is impenetrable.

Wonder what the excuse is when we go 2-10 next November....

These crap players are being resigned because of Mike Sullivan.

No.

Ebrele 44 5v5
Zucker 37 5v5
Rakell 35 5v5
Rust 28 5v5
Schwartz 23 5v5

Granlund 21 5v5

Sullivan was the guy that made the PT decisions and handed in the lineup card. You know the idiot that been killing us in the past and now the future (can't see good GM lining up knowing they are totally handcuffed to that way past his expiration date, stale moron of a coach and coaching staff). Life under FSG sucks! I shouldn't be surprised because absentee owners usually do always suck.
