I have to say, the annual Penguins are doomed thread is my favorite HFboards tradition. They'll go on something like a 12-2 run in the next few weeks and lose in the playoffs like usual.
My favourites are The Bruins are done threads. Think they have The Pens beat in that regard. Might have something to do with fans of a particular team that pretends they're a rival.
Oh so surprisingly you see them more in the summer. Been going on for a decade. Rinse and repeat. It gets pretty humorous. They've been the two most consistently competitive teams for 15 years. I'll believe they're bad when they're actually... bad.

Pens do have to sharpen it up though. Bad road trip with the depth looking a bit weak.

I feel like it was just yesterday I read on here that they had the best offense in the league AINEC.
It turns out beating lottery teams with back up goalies inflated their stats. Who would have thunk?

4 Consecutive 1st round loses, it's not like they're showing up in the playoffs either.
They actually looked really good much of last summers first round and brought the Rangers near elimination while using their third string goalie and missing Crosby for a game.

I say as a Caps fan who’s not inclined to defend the Pens for the sake of it.

Between this and - Is the pens the best offence in the league thread - must exist a middle ground?

They went from such a hot start, to looking like that Western Canada trip just murked them. That game against Vancouver, outside of Malkin and Letang, it was like the entire rest of the team was just dead tired and/or hungover or something. Just really poor effort.

They are overall, an older team at this point. Have to wonder if they're going to have the legs to survive those sort of long road trips, or a playoff series.

Crosby, Malkin and Letang is a better big three than Bergeron, Krejci and Marchand. Obviously. But Bruins have a young in prime core with around Pasta, McAvoy, DeBrusk, Carlo, etc that Pens have not been able to build.

What an embarrassing third period. I can’t see this team making the playoffs. They’re finished.

It was bound to happen eventually with a rapidly aging core and so much success for so long.

Seems like the start of a tough rebuild like the wings went through. Avoid Ken Holland and it shouldn’t be so bad.
