Really needed fancy advanced stuff to find out that chest sniping isn't going to cut it???
Imo the chest sniping is partly a symptom of our lack of ability to get to right spots quick enough for a better shot and willingness to fight thru tight checking as a forward unit

I don't understand why they claimed Ludvig if they're never going to play him and never going to waive Shea to open up another roster spot.

It's becoming harder and harder to care about this team because of how middling it is.
More press box fodder to justify Sully's obsession with Ruhwedel.

It's so funny how we just can't get away from Chad freakin Ruhwedel. This guy has been in the org since '16/'17 and has played every season to some capacity with the big team.

Unreal

The Ruhwedel thing is all about the PK. He's played the most minutes of any defenseman shorthanded. It's clear they don't trust POJ or Shea to kill penalties, and they're keeping Karlsson's minutes limited there.

It's Letang, Graves, Pettersson and Ruhwedel.

How much of the game is spent shorthanded? Let's be generous and call it 10% (3 minors per game at 6 mins)
Let's also say they split the defense PK duties evenly, so 1 minute for each group

So you're basing a roster decision on 5% of actual minutes played? And the player in question just got thrown around like a toddler in front of his own net on the PK.

Can someone call Captain Obvious now or should we wait 30 games to do so?

Team roster is fine. Coaching staff is the issue.
Eh, the coaching staff is a problem. The roster isn’t as bad as they’ve played so far, but everyone should have seen the exact issues (bottom 6 and bottom pair sucking out loud) coming all summer based on the players they had pegged in those roles. The hope was the top 6 and EK and Letang could make up for those areas sucking.

He wasn't terrible (for a waiver pickup) for a few years, peaking in 2017-2018. Jamie Oleksiak and Matt Hunwick played a similar amount of games for us that year.

But yeah, even in a much more sheltered role, it's clear he's regressed since then. In his mid 30's, fair to say his skating and overall mobility went from slightly above average to now below average. He should be the #8 D or waived at this point. Really thought Saturdays game would've been enough to bench him but I guess not. We have to see what we have in Ludvig soon, no?

Geno will save us. He creates art. EK will tune Sully out no doubt. Jeff Carter is so safe and has the Cali chill vibes he’ll infect the rest locker room and convince them to tune out Sully as well.

Sid pretends to listen to Sully knowing he’s part of the cool kids club which Sully isn’t part of.

Meanwhile Rust is Sullys mole.

And then there’s Chad, nobody knows where he fits, but he’s chill.

The top nine could be composed in a much more successful way which ultimately is on the staff.

Also gives me more excuses to post Rust.jpeg whenever he's scoring at damn near a GPG

Was kinda interested to look up how we're doing analytically as a team and see that we're actually 4th in the league in 5v5 xgoals at the moment.

A reason for optimism perhaps?

I'm completely fine with Rust getting a look on the top powerplay and he HAS been playing great to start the year. I just wish that this team had more than like... three moves. One of which is "switch Rust for Raks or the other way around."

The problem is that we have a grand total of 4 top 6 wingers and probably none that qualify as "middle 6 wingers" (DOC.... maybe? We'll always have that preseason game )

The only other button to press at the moment is benching Ruh for Ludvig or Shea.

Mike Sullivan would be absolutely stunned by those numbers

Which is why you try prospects that may fill a top nine role over Nieto and even DOC. DOC has been meh through 5 games. Call up Puusy give him 5 games. Waive Nieto.
