In all honestly I don't think this is what Sid wants. By all accounts, there is no more motivated, driven player in the league. I don't think Sid would ever tell a GM to fire a coach, but I can't imagine he is the type of guy to prioritize having an easy job over winning games.

It's funny how everyone on the Pens beat is like "this team hasn't quit on the coach" yet they haven't played a full 60 minutes in consecutive games for like 3 years and the powerplay is a total mess allegedly "because of the players"..

Until the point where the change makes no difference.
We are rapidly approaching that point, if we haven't passed it already. If nothing happens by Christmas time then this team is dead in the water. Right now, a 3-4 game win streak puts them back in the race.

The PP is due anyday now. Give it just 30 more tries with the same 4 guys and a puck might eventually find it's way into the net. Start holding onto your breath and butts
Eventually they’re going to get a bounce and successfully pass the puck into the net.

1 in a million times it works every time.

And honestly...that's a cruel fate right there. My hope is by the TDL, we know. Or at least Dubas and Co KNOW if it's worth taking the plunge to "go for it". As been discussed before, I think at this point, trading Jake out for a haul and drafting high is the best outcome for a lost season. Then try again next year.

If you can get (as talked about long ago) - Marchment, Bourque, 1st for Jake @ 50% and then draft Demidov, your roster takes on a who new outlook both in the short and long term. A stable of Demidov, Yager, Bourque, and Pickering isn't the worst little crop to have.

I just don't want "Oh we are sooooo close, send out a 2nd for Granlund and several other minor assets for Kulikov and Bonino" only to watch us flop.

you'd think but if you never shoot you're actually never due unless the opponent scores an own goal

I heard speculation that they would oust Reirden during the long break between the Panthers and Coyotes game but the logic makes 0 sense to me.

The long break is not going to disappear if they fire Reirden now. They need a new leader ASAP. It literally cannot get worse than it already is.

We all love Letang's game overall, but the fact that these idiots thought putting him on the point was going to help displays their level of delusion.

Montgomery last year should be exhibit A of how a new voice/coach can do wonders.
That team is about as old as we are, yet can still get buy in from a coach who actually holds his players accountable
Monty has used youth in better ways than Sully ever has. Even this year. A Sully team would have had Heinen signed. Monty was like yeah f*** all that, play the youth.

The thing is we shouldn't hope for that 3-4 game win streak. All it does is inflate Sullivan's hype a little longer and then the team is out in the first round like usual.

A stale voice is still stale. Even if it sparks a few streaks, at this point it's been the same pattern for years. It's predictable.

I don’t think Sully gets fired midseason unless another coach they like gets fired first. I don’t think they want anyone currently on the market.
Pretty much. And I'm not even sure they'd fire Sullivan if they miss the playoffs again tbh.

At some point it'll shift from "Sully's one of the best in the business and we're lucky to have him despite the results" to "Not even Sullivan can win with a team at the end of an era" and they'll just keep shrugging like they always do.

I can’t see Sully surviving the summer of another missed playoffs, but then again who knows.

You would think that a city who got so mad at a GM to chant for his removal during a game would be fed up with Sully by now, but this is also a group of people who think putting French fries on anything edible is culture so.

This team just continues to do the same thing game after game and expects a different result. I think there is a definition for this.
..do the same thing *for years

Yeah, they're too old after all.
