Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

Yes. He is being used as the 2nd pairing 5v5 RHD. He played over Myers in the last two games.

I watch the Canucks play hockey.

Myers played 17:10 at 5v5 in their last game compared to 15:13 for Friedman.

I don't even know why I'm engaging in this conversation, I genuinely do not care about Mark Friedman and I know this argument is just another way for you to say how much you hate Mike Sullivan.

I mean, ya. I hammered Sully going back several seasons. My post history shows I put the blame on him firstly. But RJ said Sully was one of the best coaches in the league and there would be no one else to replace him under the circumstances of the current team. That we wouldn't be happy with the results of a change right now (which might be true, idk). He mostly faulted the age, the make up of the team, and individual players. Which after realizing who I was arguing with (which was like half way though) I just left it at a neutral place and we talked about other things, mostly that we grew up 10 minutes from each other and the places we used to go to as kids. He's a really nice guy. Said he appreciated different perspectives and talking hockey like that.
It is rare to hear a hockey player or former hockey player to say publicly anything meaningful when it comes to team/player assessment. Other than bunch of CW and cliche you ever think, wow I did not think of that, or thats really true...must be culture...

Mark Friedman has been top 4 in terms of 5v5 ice time for defensemen in 5 of the last 6 games with the Canucks.

As far as last game, usually you play your 3rd pairing a lot in a blow out.

At the time, none of the guys we let go were of any major loss. But it's hard to ignore how many guys have picked up their game since moving on from Sullivan.
Also, note how we don't really get new acquisitions that thrive in this system past a few weeks. I keep asking but when has the last time a fresh pickup or trade has had a career year here, leaving aside the shortage seasons?

Which is the stronger reversal? Emp's "as someone who has played goalie their whole life" or pixie's "I actually watch [insert team]"?

I mean if we're talking about techniques of goalies, I don't see how this doesn't count as relevant?

My opinion on goalies isn't worth more based on that, but I'm absolutely able to talk about goalie techniques far more accurately than someone else who doesn't have experience playing goalie.

I don't think this is actually an issue. We see players come in on fire all the time. Then they slowly seem to turn into what is happening with Rakell.

But that's just me "hating Sullivan".

This whole board just reads like everyone’s account is run by Ryan W.

That's @Andy99

Matheson is probably the best recent example to pop to mind.

Lot easier to watch games then to act like sitting on a bench watching D3 players play hockey is "playing goalie their whole life".

I'm just f***ing with you guys.

Kessel?

I wish this team didn't suck so we wouldn't have to argue about nobodies like Mark Friedman or about whether Jarry should play a standup/hybrid style

It will be interesting to see how Reily Smith's season closes out. He's off to a hot start, but Sullivan's only had his hands on "fixing" him for less than 10 games. I wonder how Smith's going to look by about game 70 after Sullivan's drilled it into him how to play "the right way".

Honestly I'm not worried about Smith, he's the prototypical Mike Sullivan forward. He's pretty much the perfect forward for what Sullivan wants in a player.

Great speed, great forechecker, reliable defensively, can kill penalties, offers some own creativity....there's like nothing to dislike there.

We'll see. Rakell looked promising and showed attributes that should have been perfect for our top six when he arrived, too. Now he's a guy with 1 point in 9 games and kind of just there.

This board (as a whole, not necessary individuals....although probably some individuals) love to simultaneously bitch about how they have no depth and then downplay the significance any time there is a depth move.

Zohorna is the ultimate example of this right now, but it applies to Friedman, McCann, Sundqvist, Gaudreau..........

A lot of the acquisitions have fallen on their face honestly. I went back a ways and there's certainly more miss than hit.

Hey, hey, HEY now...we are NOT THAT bad.

Jesus, I forgot about ol Kirk. Been about 2 years since he posted. What happened to him?

Rakell still does a lot of things on the ice that help the overall collective effort. When I look at his body of work, I do think there "should" be more on the scoresheet for him but I'm not unhappy with his overall play. He'll notch one sooner than later.

That said, he could be a trade candidate to shake things up. Oddly, there are quite a few guys like Rakell in the league in a similar boat.

I think @ColePens has said he just was done here.

I blame myself.
