'Loser points' still count, whether you like it or not.

Also very convenient that January being the cutoff is right after the Pens had a 3 game win streak and the Caps lost 4 in a row (2 in OT, but apparently those don't count).
You said the Pens are heading in the right direction and the Caps in the wrong…I think two weeks of games is a fair look at that…I didn’t count the Caps loser points either

lol OK, man. We both know why you picked January as your cutoff.

Caps haven't had any loser points in January BTW. They have the same amount of points as the Pens in 1 more game in your very carefully selected timeframe.

He's definitely cooled off, but he probably needs more than 7 minutes per game to truly evaluate him.
When he's on the ice he often helps generate offensive chances, unlike a lot of the tweeners they have in the lineup. But he often seems lost and his size is a bit of an issue on the boards at the NHL level. I think the lost issue would go away with more playing time. On a team that's crying for any offense from lines 2-4, it would be nice to give him the chance to find his game. But I understand every coach's (not just Sully's) instinct not to be questioned why he had a rookie on the ice when the other team scored the GWG. (better to have a savvy veteran out who can't keep up with the other team).

Puustinen's an NHLer. Probably not a very good one or anything, and definitely not under Sullivan with a roster that'll keep the top-9 full of vets forever, but whatever.

The Red Wings win tonight means that WC2 cutoff has been bumped up to 49 points…and now we’re 3 points behind …

The powerplay is ranked 28th. Imagine if they were even middle-of-the-pack. That's around 10 more goals scored.
It's harder to imagine someone at 29-32. Looks like Flames, Caps, Hawks, Flyers (who we gave up a PPG to last week). I haven't figured out how far we'd have to extend our current PPG drought to catch the Flyers at the bottom of the pack.

It boils down to this:
Teams will rise and fall as the season goes on (duh)
But the critical thing for the Pens is that they need to win the DIVISION games. They post a winning record the rest of the way for those games and they are likely in.

Do it, Dubas. Call up Poulin.

In all seriousness, there is no reason to put Zohorna on waivers and likely send him down to WBS without having another move in mind. Colin White isn't going to play left wing on the third line.

This sets up either a Poulin recall or a Puljujarvi signing. Or both.

or a trade.....maybe

I almost forgot that Ruhwedel was hurt and didn't finish Monday's game. Might be a flurry of moves.

Ruhwedel to IR, Smith to LTIR. Shea up, Poulin up, Puljujarvi signed. Maybe even Ty Smith up.

It's likely gonna be a D-man who can PK in a pinch. That's always the focus with HCMS, since he was a killer in his playing career.

Shea is it.

Rathbone and Smith are offensive defensemen. Fedun and Ouellet are righties but they're minor league vets. Butcher has been trending in that direction, too.

They could call up Jack St. Ivany. 24-year-old righty supposedly has good decent hockey IQ. Seems to be developing decently into a stay-at-home defenseman.

Yeah it's gonna be Shea in all likelihood, if Chad's dead.

I'll mourn the loss of Ty Smith when he's gone, having never got a proper shot with the big club. Putting up big points in Wilkes while we trot out our 28th ranked PP...

Oh well. RIP.
