Today's practice lines. Zohorna not participating, so he's definitely on his way to WBS if he clears waivers.

White is likely just a placeholder because they only have 12 healthy forwards.

Jake Guentzel-Sidney Crosby-Rickard Rakell
Drew O'Connor-Evgeni Malkin-Bryan Rust
Colin White-Lars Eller-Valtteri Puustinen
Jansen Harkins-Noel Acciari-Jeff Carter

Marcus Pettersson-Kris Letang
Ryan Graves-Erik Karlsson
P.O Joseph-Chad Ruhwedel

Also, no Sullivan today.

You can knock on him for being old but Corey Perry checks a lot of boxes. He's a big body that actually plays big, brings snarl, and best of all he forces Sully+Reiden's hand to re-think the PP.
He’d be great as a sheltered 4th liner used as a pp net front specialist. The problem is Sully would play him 16 mins a night like Jeff Carter.

Zohorna clears. Shea is up.

Sounds like from practice reports that Smith may not be out as long as they thought. He's traveling with team but won't play. Probably why no additional call-ups for now.

puustinen won't even be in this lineup if nieto ever comes back
I gotta be honest, if a team comes asking about depth for the playoffs and have even the slightest interest in Nieto or Acciari (or Carter for that matter), I take whatever return they are willing to give and I don't look back.

You want and need players like Acciari on the team come playoff time. Guy lays out his body on the regular. I wouldn't be in a rush to move him. He's one of the guys that do have a pulse on the bottom 6

Maybe. Maybe. But I wouldn't hesitate for one second to get out of his deal and use the opening to bring in someone else or sign someone else later.

It's not that I don't like Acciari or Nieto but they've hardly have the impact I thought they would. For $2mil for 2 years, I think we can do better or put that money to better use.

There's a million coulda, woulda, shoulda in hindsight but they could have offered Tatar a $1.5mil deal if they hadn't signed Acciari. And we could have signed any number of 4Cs or used someone from WBS. I don't think the overall impact would be have been any greater or less. Meanwhile, it's possible that we could have landed a 3rd line wing that could have help keep the bottom 6 from being completely anemic for so much of the season. I know that's pretty loose reasoning but if we can get a do over, do it.

do you really think that he would even see a second of pp time? :biglaugh:
At RD on PP2? Almost certainly, yes. He's a left shot, unlike Letang. So there's no conflict there.

On PP1 it's harder, but I think possible as well. Again, he'd be on the opposite side of Karlsson. Rust and Rakell have been swapped out a lot. So one of them getting removed isn't that big of a stretch.

Sid-Jake-Malkin
Karlsson-Smith

Reirden's more flexible with personnel decisions than Sully, plus, he's desperate. He could very well lose his job by year's end at this pace, especially if they miss the playoffs with the PP being a main reason.

I don't have an issue calling up Smith but he's not going to play on the PP over Karlsson or Letang and he can't kill penalties so he'd purely be a 3rd pairing 5x5 guy.
He's a left shot. 65 and 58 are not who he'd replace.

Not sure if you know but Tatar had 1 more goal this year than Acciari and he was predominantly playing on scoring lines.

Acciari brings a lot more to the table than Tatar not to mention he was already waived this year.

Give me Acciari

Yeah, I was refering back to this off-season as an example. Tatar has woefully underperformed compared to his baseline. Acciari is right in line with his averages. I just think $2mil is a lot to pay for a guy like Acciari .
