Retained on Petry, only 1.5mil saved in Karlsson and lost Rutta. I’m not happy

Yay to Ruh full time in the line up. Ffs….
Don't really understand not being happy about a trade in which we shipped out Petry and Granlund without having to use a buyout.

And barely gave up any of what little future we have to boot.

This trade was a grand slam.

Welcome to Pittsburgh Erik! I love this trade by Dubas, and I hope Toronto fans are pissed right now.

It will make zero difference when Jarry gets concussed in game 3 because we shipped out our only 2 defensemen willing to clear the crease and did not replace one of them with a similar grittiness.

Getting someone for relatively cheap that can play 10 minutes and clear the crease wont be difficult.

You trade ruuta 10 times out of 10 if that’s what it takes to bring in someone like Karlsson.

This is literally as close as I can think to the "lol sure just trade all our bad players for their good players" scenario. Plus did the Penguins actually get younger, here?

Also lol to the "sour grapes" now being the other way around up on the trade board. Now suddenly it's "good... the Penguins are old and suck and this is actually gonna make them worse." Convenient.

Not like Granlund was going to score much or drive play but I’m a little concerned for our depth scoring. I don’t really see this bottom 6 scoring much. Maybe 70 goals total out of the 3rd & 4th line?

But they are defensively sound and good on faceoffs and there’s some physicality mixed in so hopefully they can at least put our top 6 into positions to score.

There’s also internal competition so if some guys aren’t producing you can throw Nylander or Hinostrozsa in.
The depth scoring was a concern before we moved Granlund out and imo moving him out doesn't change that all that much. He wasn't going to score much as is I don't think. Not the way he'd be used here.

The way I look at it, EK is the depth scoring. If you take the scoring we already had and add a PPG dman to that, that is improving depth scoring. It's just a different way of going about it than via the bottom six.

Malkin licking his chops right now thinking of all those juicy one timers he’ll be getting on the PP

Lets not assume too much, yet.

However he should be licking his chops thinking about how now he can actually hit the late guy flying into the zone as is his wont and it's EK65 as opposed to like Dumo or Rutta.

I think they actually improved their depth scoring with moving Granlund for Pitlick.

Granlund: 1.42 5v5 points/60 in the last 2 years
Pitlick: 1.87 5v5 points/60 in the last 2 years

Pitlick had 37 points in 66 games in 2021-2022.

Keep in mind Penguins Fans, EK65 has a history with injuries. He'll play 50-53 games of the 82 games season. Thanks for taking him off our hands. Hope you guys get to the playoff this year.
