Not a fan of only getting 1.5 mil in retention, and also retaining on Petry.

If Karlsson goes back his previous years before this one, we have an awful contract in our hands.

I like the trade still. Got rid of Grans and most of Petry's cap.

Dubas unloaded 2of our 3 worst contracts.
Basically we acquired EK for a 1st, 2nd, Ruutta, Legare. Great deal.

Dubas undid a large chunk of Hextalls damage in just a couple months.
I still keep looking at the deal, scrutinizing it as if there is some fine print. Like it cant POSSIBLY be for this.

Like you said, he cleared out 2 of our 3 worst contracts. He got someone to take CDS. He got a condition on the 1st rounder. He kept Pickering AND Yager. This just seems like an absolute master class. IN ONE MOVE.

This is like Trader Jim on steroids. If it wasnt for the Jarry signing, which I still dont agree with, I would want to give Dubas the keys to the city for 2 months of work.

Like I posted on the main board, I don't think anyone did poorly in this deal:

1. San Jose was never going to get better than this unless they were willing to retain more on Karlsson.
2. Montreal got pretty good value here by swapping Pitlick for Petry (with retention) and a 2nd. Montreal will probably flip Petry again with salary retention and likely get a good return for him.

The Penguins are the clear winners because the deal was basically a bunch of shit plus a 1st and 2nd for Erik Karlsson, but I don't think San Jose or Montreal did poorly here.

Dude we don't have any f***ing low lifes on the team making too much money (Except Jarry :sarcasm: )

Getting out of those contracts and into EKs is perfectly fine. We do need some depth but honestly let some young guys do their thang.

The nice thing is that if the stars align this year somehow, the top 4 and top 6 forwards are set. So you’re really looking at just bottom 6 and bottom pairing additions come deadline time. And they absolutely kept enough assets to do something there.

Of course injuries will throw all of that out of whack.

I am honestly not crazy about Karlsson still coming in at such a high cap hit, especially when the Penguins are retaining money on Petry.

They only paid a 1st so it's a hell of a deal, but I wanted Karlsson to come in at a lower AAV.

You will never be happy. You've been complaining for years for the Pens to make a splash and they do and your still not happy.

EK is elite and has always been elite. There is no going back to before.

He was disinterested and had a lingering groin injury. Once past that you see what you get.

Yeah I think SJ can be happy that they retained so little but still managed to get something in return. That isn't nothing.

Also... Montreal... you uh... you're also part of this! Nathan Legare is... a... um... player that... er... plays hockey!

Lol Rutherford boring? That guy made trades just for the sake of making trades
The entirety of the 20 years haven't been one of those things, just throughout we've seen all of them. Rutherford would be the harrowing. Shero (the majority of the time, a few deals aside obviously) and Hextall would be the boring.
