God damn, that's a girthy trade.

I don't know what I'm most happy about; Petry going back to Montreal, EK being a Penguin, or not having to watch Granlund. Maybe that the Pens only spent a 1st as the only notable asset dealt.

I am honestly not crazy about Karlsson still coming in at such a high cap hit, especially when the Penguins are retaining money on Petry.

They only paid a 1st so it's a hell of a deal, but I wanted Karlsson to come in at a lower AAV.

Give and take in negotiations I suppose

Man I really didn't think they'd pull this off. Thrilled to be wrong. Super stoked to see how he looks with this group next year. I don't know if this really puts them back into the thick of things but regardless the team should be fun to watch again.
Three shifts until EK suffers a career ending ankle injury. :sarcasm:

The only real unfortunate part of this is Chad Ruhwedel is now a regular on D and we probably can’t afford EK in 2 years lol

Ditto. But at least the assets are there to maybe chase some value additions if needed.

One of you cap wizards tell me what we’re looking at now.

Karlsson at ~12 (just adding in Petry retention) is a lot, but we moved out so much…

Capfriendly says we're now only 80k over the cap with a 21 man roster.

This is a pretty good trade for all sides. San Jose retains only 1.5m, Pit gets EK for relatively cheap and MTL gets paid to get Petry

I was going to do the cap calculatons but Capfriendly already beat me to it

Without Guentzel on LTIR, the Penguins are sitting with $-80k in cap space with a 22 man roster. Another way to put it, they're basically cap compliant with this 22 man roster:

Guentzel-Crosby-Rakell
Smith-Malkin-Rust
Pitlick-Eller-Acciari
O'Connor-Carter-Nieto
Hinostroza

Graves-Letang
Pettersson-Karlsson
POJ-Ruhwedel
Smith

Jarry-Nedjelkovic

Yeah I'm certainly not complaining, especially because the only piece of note the Penguins gave up was the 2024 1st. I was just hoping he'd come in a bit cheaper.

How does the money look now? Can we add another forward to replace Guentzel (for the time being) and Granlund
