Is it worth going to the main boards to lick up the salty tears?
Vid from todays presser:
Thanks for the review! Yeah, the +/- crowd in the trade thread on the main boards are just the lowest common denominator of hockey fan intelligence. Glad to hear former Pittsburgh Penguins legend Scott Harrington is still collecting checks.Sharks fan coming in peace. Karlsson was the only fun player to watch on the Sharks in the past few years and his offensive contribution is second to none - you got one of the best players in the league in terms of being able to create offense and raise the level of players around him. He turned AHL lifers like Jaycob Megna and Scott Harrington into serviceable NHL defensemen.
There's a lot of talk about his defensive ability, but in the modern NHL a good offense is a good defense, and being able to move the puck out of the zone the way he does and his stickhandling ability more than makes up for the fact that he doesn't play like Roman Polak in front of the net. People love to use +/- 5v5 to knock him, without mentioning the fact that he was basically played constantly in empty net situations and was playing on the team with the least wins in the league, not to mention the terrible goaltending the Sharks have gotten over the past God-knows-how-long.
The contract hurts, but if Karlsson can stay healthy and continue to play the way he has but with even better players around him, it will be worth it.
We have ourselves a few +/- guys here that think EK needs to work real hard to make it work. Thanks for the review! its was one of our biggest needs, someone who can drive the play and take the load off of Geno and Sid. We were looking at wings to help but it just so happens he's a defenseman and one of the best to drive play in the game.Am I the only one who thinks that Karlsson's defensive zone exits and bringing the puck briskly and efficiently down the ice will be more important than the points that he scores?

Bottom six is pretty unremarkable.Considering the moves this summer, this leaves Sully with no more excuses, right?
It depends on how they are failing.Considering the moves this summer, this leaves Sully with no more excuses, right?

It really is. Karlsson could bomb here and it would still be a steal.Getting EK and dumping Gran, Pets, CDS and Rutta for a 1st and 2nd is a f***ing robbery.
We played against EK in the playoffs in 2017, we are fully aware of his game. The majority of his career was in OTT so we know him as a player. I'm glad you came in peace though, it's appreciated. A few guys from your fanbase though don't seem to have a clue. They expected a much bigger haul without any rhyme or reason to do so under the circumstances. They got very quiet after the trade. I hope they learned their lesson, but probably not.Sharks fan coming in peace. We're aware of this. Well, some of us are.Karlssons minus last season was due to the fact sharks gave up 21 empty netters
That's fair, but I do think it's important to reiterate, considering it's been a few years since he's been in OTT and he's about to be in his mid-30s now.We played against EK in the playoffs in 2017, we are fully aware of his game. I expected minimal retention myself and said as much. Although maybe more than 1.5 mil. But if you saw some of the nonsense that some espoused about multiple 1st rounders, top prospects etc it was crazy. And we recouped a 3rd rounder. Grier was in a tough position, everybody knew that or should have known that. I'll say this about him, at least he didn't completely soil the bed. That's fair, but I do think it's important to reiterate, considering it's been a few years since he's been in OTT and he's about to be in his mid-30s now.
Also, I think the minimal retention changed things for the Sharks, but most of us are fairly content with the return because we didn't have to take ~25-30%. I think a lot of our expectations were based around the idea that we'd be retaining a lot more.
$13.75 million in cap out. And you get a Norris winner in return. I'm not sure how bad Karlsson has to bomb here to make this trade bad for the Penguins but I'm not even sure it's entirely possible.Getting EK and dumping Gran, Pets, CDS and Rutta for a 1st and 2nd is a f***ing robbery.
Puustinen-McDavid-DraiDrai the summer after that, McDavid the summer after that.
Yes. The Penguins are the type of organization that despite being on the team for 1 day, they will treat him as if he's been here 100 years.Real question... EK has appeared in 920 career games, does he get the same ceremony for 1000 that 87, 58, and 71 have gotten
They probably trade Hoffman and Granlund away for some picks anyways..Dear San Jose,
Enjoy Granlund.
Warmest Regards,

The f*** do I care what they do with them? They probably trade Hoffman and Granlund away for some picks anyways..

Thin on depth and the usual injury level would devastate this team. Especially entering the playoffs. This roster is a rickety collection of bargain bin depth that's hopefully going to be tentpoled by a group of mid-30s injury prone guys, all backstopped by the Tristan Jarry Coaster.
There's a fair few ways this could go south.
Vid from todays presser:
Still kinda bummed he sucks so bad these days because I always really liked him in Minnesota.I really wanted to like Granlund. He's incredibly, remarkably smart. And any fan who can't recognize that is incredibly the opposite.
But my God he's weak. Put him in the corner for a puck battle with a toddler, and I'm not sure who wins.
The current state of the main boards is that they had to lock a Crosby birthday thread because someone threw a tantrum that it wasn't fair not to wish everyone else who has a birthday today well.Is it worth going to the main boards to lick up the salty tears?
