MSG Post Game Show Highlights and Commentary.

Goodnight all, and don’t stress . We will win this series. @Tob
Guarantee’s it.

He's in the process of deleting his account right now

That is absolutely what I am saying, yes.

The Penguins won two Cups with a guy who was a rookie both times he won it and then could barely stay in the league.
History has proven you correct. The importance of goalies in the modern NHL is greatly exaggerated.

Game was there for the taking with three power plays in a row. That's never going to happen again this series and they didn't cash in.

Just didn't deserve it at the end of the day.
This says it all. This game was like kissing your sister. We all feel good about coming back from 4-1 due to a combination of a disastrous first period goaltending but as usual our team doesn't plays defense and our coach is cool with that. Then after the tie we get 3 PP opptys and do nothing with them. We deserve to lose the game and the series. But I so hope we wind to get to the second round so the entire organization from Laffy/Kakko and Drury understand what needs to ne done to win in the playpffs

We had the best goalie for years and won squat. It's important to have one that's serviceable (AKA not Georgiev). But many teams have won the cup or cups with just above average goaltending. Don't get me wrong, I love Shesty. But we've seen this movie of great goalies winning nothing here before.
Yes and Price hasn't won it either but more often than not the team that wins it all has a quality netminder just like the last 2 years.

Having a great goalie is like the icing on top of the cake. Sort of how Vasilevskiy is with Tampa. But the Rangers cake is half-baked so it's not enough to go the distance. That's been the problem for 15 years.

Igor was pulled a goal too late, actually. He was brutal tonight.
I meant going with the empty net, as you might have too, but I agree. He looks mentally fatigued and perhaps battling some physical injury after Carter kamikazed into him the previous game.

Is Shesterkin tired? I was listening to the Jeff Marek show on Friday. Elliotte Friedman mentioned Kelly Hrudey and Kevin Bieksa told him they felt Shersterkin looked tired to them in game 2. Elliotte didn't agree with them. Sheshterkin did look off today. He was not sharp. He looked a little tired. Mentally? Physically?

It wouldn't be a surprise if he was. Facing 130 shots in 8+ periods, many of them high quality would probably be very fatiguing.

Possibly. He did play nearly 2 games in game 1. Maybe that is why Gallant didn't put him back in when they tied it up.

As much as I hate AG, I'm. Curious and concerned what happened to Igor tonight. Did the crowd get to him? Did the bad goal early rattle him that much? It is concerning how the period snowballed on Igor. I love Igor so I'm not dumping on him, I am just curious about the road forward and I hope be bounces back in game 4 with his usually dominants self.
Even the best goalies have bad games. Always have always will. Other than that nothing is wrong with him. Its the truly great goalies that learn how to bounce back and forget all about it .

Way more often than not cup winning teams have had quality goaltenders in net.
Not really.

2006 - Canes win with a rookie backup

2008 - Osgood had a career .905 save percentage in the lowest scoring era in modern history

2010 - Hawks win with probably the worst starter in the NHL

2016 - Pens win with the local vagrant who lives at the gas station

2017 - Pens repeat with the local vagrant who lives at the gas station

2019 - Blues win with a rookie who has since lost the starting job

As for the rest of the winners since the lockout, Fleury won it and he's famous for his playoff meltdowns, Giguere and Crawford are very good but also played on comfortably the best teams, Quick and Hotlby have had completely average careers, and Vasilevskiy is arguably the best goalie but also the Lightning could win the Cup with a trained seal in net.

The only team since that lockout that's won the Cup that wasn't also a top 3-5 team in the league outside of goaltending, that won because of goaltending is the 2011 Bruins.

So since the lockout, you've had one goaltender carry a team to a Cup and SIX outright bad goaltenders win the Cup.

Shesterkin might be the most overrated goalie in history .

I see his star burning out quickly as Sorokin becomes the premier Russian in the NHL.

This is why the Rangers wanted a goalie and NOT Othman .

They don’t fully believe either ..

Good goaltending is the easiest thing to find in sports. You should never spend money on it.
I really have to disagree with you on this. You should spend as much as is required on the best goalie available. If you break it down minutes played per game per position ....Goalie dollars are bar far the best investment a team can make.

I understand what you are saying and I'm not arguing that the goaltender carried the team but would those teams have won if they just received average goaltending. I seem to remember Quick, Crawford, MAF, Osgood, Vasilevskiy all having very good playoffs. We stand a much better chance if Shesty is Shesty and not the imposter that showed up tonight.
