I’m a Utah fan - wondering what you all think about this trade concept.

**To BOS:**
Maccelli
Carcone
‘26 NYR 2nd
‘26 CAR 3rd

**To UTA:**
Frederic
Coyle

Maccelli hasn’t had a good season. He was really good the last couple of seasons. Rookies like Guenther, Cooley, etc are eating up the choice minutes now. I think his deployment has hurt him. With more opportunities and better linemates, he could be a player. He put up all those points with Crouse, and Bjugstad as primary linemates the last couple of seasons. Crouse and Bjugstad have also struggled this season. Hard to say exactly what’s gone wrong with this trio in Utah.

Carcone is small, tough as nails, and can get red hot with goal scoring every once in a while. Mostly cold, sometimes very hot hand. He’s not big but he’s got a big punch and doesn’t take crap. He’s a 4th liner. Cheap.

Honestly, I think that's a pretty fair value exchange. From my POV anyway. I wouldn't have anything negative to say if something like that went down.

If we could swap Maccelli for Crouse I’m in.

Shut down everyone with the slightest nagging injury, bring up the youth/hitters/fighters, trade expiring contracts, bank deadline cap space and take on bad contracts attached to high draft pics and/or good prospects, and deal with the cap overages in the offseason ...if you're going to tank then tank big
Lets see if we can get Lee Stempmiak for a 2nd & 4th .Or Zac Rinaldo for a 3rd :sarcasm: Seriously though, the Bruins will not give up till deadline day is a good bet.

I don't really think so

Sub in McBain for Carcone and I would consider

Bruins would be better off moving them in separate deals and retaining on Coyle to maximize the return

Carcone is the most minor of pieces. I assume he's just a contract number/salary swap. UFA to be.

Maccelli for Coyle (with no retention). That's fair to me. Bruins get the younger player (24), who actually has scored at a better rate than Coyle over the past few years. Free flyer with some salary implications. Utah gets the Veteran #2/3C with a somewhat inflated contract. Best player in the deal, but he's got a year left and that's not going to be easy to move IMO.

2nd, 3rd and Carcone for Frederic. Hate to break it to people, but you aren't getting a 1st or top prospect for UFA Frederic. Maybe at this time last year. Not today however.

I just doubt you get any better than that if selling individually.

I think the idea would be to take expiring contracts from contenders for picks and prospects, allowing the contenders to add big salary players for their cup runs.
Consider what teams get for eating half an expiring deal, being the double retainer in a trade. They get a 4th, 5th or whatever for eating the prorated remainder of $1m - $2m.

If you are just eating the whole shebang, what's the expectation? A 3rd?

You don't see deals like that (just getting picks for an expiring deal with nothing else going on and no one else involved) all that often, so it's not like you'll even benefit from volume trades like that at the deadline.

The problem is the remaining cash on an expiring deal isn't all that much at the deadline, so the value is the same.

Nice to hope, but best to keep the expectations in check.

I think it was a good Press conference. Sweeney is a respected GM even though many people may not like him. He’s made some good moves by bringing in Zacha, Geekie, Peeke, Brazeau, Kastelic, drafting Potrais, Lohrie, Beecher and perhaps we will see Merkalov and Lysell. Maybe DePetro.
A time for a re-tool is now. They are not making the playoffs and if they did, they one and done. The strategy appears to move out the UFA‘s, decide on the restricted free agents and perhaps move out some veterans. ( Coyle, Carlo, Korpisalo ) and perhaps have a hard conversation for Brad to have a run with another team at a Cup. He can always resign in the summer. With the LTIR take expiring contracts from contenders for picks and prospects. Get in the driver seat for this years draft and next year as well open up some cap space for UFA summer.
Smart strategy and it’s about time. Let’s see on the results of what he can do. Donny needs an A trade deadline and he needs an A on UFA season. He also needs a new coaching staff. He has a lot of work ahead of him and let’s see an experienced GM can do. So, get behind him because he is not going anywhere. Go Bruins.

Agreed let's go Donny and do your magic. More haula for zacha type moves please.

Looking at suitors and their chips, we’ve got the pieces to take Savoie and STLs original 2nd round pick from Edmonton, but it might cost taking Arvidsson in any deal.

Down year this year from injury, older than I’d like by a good bit, and costs 4mil next year, so not great but could be worth what you’re adding and has a recent history of scoring. Heck, might even be possible to retain 1mil and flip him somewhere if we staple someone to him. If 3+ of Frederic, Geekie, Coyle, Brazzers aren’t on the team next year, keeping him has bottom 6 merit imo.

None of these guys are a top end talent or prospects.

The only top end talend Sweeney brought in by signing/trading/drafting was Ullmark, Hampus Lindholm and playoff Bertuzzi as rental.
Still, Ullmark couldn't perform in the playoffs and Lindholm has been healthy only for half season so far.

However Sweeney's record of trading/signing over the hill junk or picks wasted to dump junk or picks wasted on busts is quite long.

It’s obvious that we will have a huge roster turnover by October. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind a 100% roster turnover. I know it’s not going to happen, but looking at our current roster, I don’t see many must-have keepers. The product is incredibly boring and nearly void of any type of excitement. When was the last memorable game?
I keep Zad because he’s the only intimidating player on the roster. I keep Kastelic even though he’s hasn’t done anything for three months. Sadly, everyone else is a trade chip, including Pasta and Swayman. I would try hard to dump all the huge salaries.
I don’t want Sweeney doing a rebuild. I’m not sure who’s out there to take over, but it seems like anyone would be an improvement over the current clown show. A fish rots from the head.
