TSN: Pearson traded to Pittsburgh

I know both teams are struggling and needed a change, but I like this for the Pens. Pearson is a good player, capable of playing top 6 and he's struggled, but so have most of the Kings. He's only 26, just hitting his prime. The whole team has played crappy this year, so I can't single him out. I think given a faster team, playing with a top center, maybe some PP time, he'll do fine. He's a good 2 way player, and we've seen how good he can be. I would have preferred Rust over Haglin,.
And even if they do move Haglin in Feb (or sooner) they still have a roster spot to fill. TSN radio rumors that the Kings are not done dealing and a 'bigger ' trade is coming.
So it could be that they were clearing $$ for whatever player they are targeting.

Because LA is where scoring goes to die. I wouldn't be surprised if Pearson suddenly started scoring again now that he's out of this cloud of offensive suffucation.

Blah, blah, blah, Kopitar 90+ point season, Brown back to 60 points. They outscored the Hawks in 2014 under Sutter.

Go read the Pens board. Some of them aren't thrilled with Sullivan's coaching/system either.

Where's Gallant's great offensive system this year? Can't use injuries. Good coaches adapt. They make players better.

I will laugh if Pearson does well in Pittsburgh.

He will do well there, why wouldn't he? HE'll be playing in more uptempo system with a good centerman and some PP time. HE's a top 6 forward, who like most of his teamates, was playing crappy this year. DOesn't change the fact he's a good 2 way forward, strong on the boards, plays hard, etc. He'll do better there than Haglin will here. IT was a good trade for the Pens

We need to be trading for futures. AEG needs to realize that the sooner we rebuild the sooner we can compete, we could be back on top in 3-4 seasons with a serious rebuild.

Just curious, what would you guys be willing to give up for a player who has no goals and one assist in 17 games played and is locked up for an additional two more seasons at $3.75M?

So who's left from both cup teams now? Quick, Kopitar, Carter, Brown, Lewis, Clifford, Doughty, Martinez. Muzzin and Toffoli from the 2nd cup team.

If cap space is so important to this team, why do you drop $6MM on a 35 year old for the next three seasons?

Blake and Luc's gross miscalculation of this team is now screwing a possible rebuild as well since they held on to the assets for too long and now they are horribly depreciated. This is the argument that has been made by many on here: sell high when you can see the end on the horizon.

Most of us saw the end coming for certain guys. Maybe not Pearson, but he also is a "maybe" 20 goal guy and not someone like Carter that could have fetched something good. Now we are sitting here in the ruins of a lost season with the core guys who are most likely going nowhere--Kopitar and Doughty--one year older and one year worse.

Blake bet on this team and was horribly wrong. Lombardi got run out on a rail for betting on his guys but at least they were not as far removed from winning Cups. Blake gets high off of a first round sweep with three total goals scored and then tries to get Patches before handing over $6MM for three years to Kovalchuk.

Now cap space is important? Sorry, but I truly believe these morons felt they had a contender. The Kovalchuk deal and attempted Patches trade confirms it. Two more years of 11 & 8 have been pissed away. Now Blake is having to figure things out on the fly because this season is the last thing he expected.

That doesn't make me feel good and it shouldn't make you feel good either.

Worst start since 86-87? We can talk about all of Lombardi's mistakes that have helped lead to where we are now, but Blake has been in charge for long enough to try to correct things. Simply drafting players and signing some UDFAs is the safest, unimaginative shit you can do. It is needed but it also means you have to nail those picks. More picks = more bites of the apple. He should have been trying to obtain more picks/prospects by moving guys immediately upon becoming GM. Instead, he keeps trying to win with basically the same team that played for Lombardi in 2017 and then doubles down on them for this season.

The best thing he has done so far is sign Iafallo, a guy that wasn't the top target and was already being hounded by Lombardi's staff while DL was still here. His signature trade has Phaneuf's contract on the books for awhile. His signature draft pick needs a back transplant.

It's not good. I really hope he turns it around for our sake but the Luc/Blake era is shaping up like many of us expected.

Are all the players trash so this team needs to rebuild or all they all assets? They can't be both.

Why didn’t the Kings take Sprong?

Because the salary cap and that Sprong is worth more than Pearson + #2 pick.
Perasons and Hagelins salaries are close to even this year....the Pens lose the 'deal
because they have Pearson's 3.75 contract 2 more years!!! Blake fleeced them.
Pearson may never score 10 goals a year again and the Kings got out out of the
contract.

The Pens are my team, so I watch most of their games, but I live in SoCal and watch 50+ Kings games a year. So here's my take:

First, I think Hagelin is miles better than Reider and Austin Wagner - while he is fast, he plays a much different game. His value is in letting offensive minded centers focus a bit more on the offensive side of the puck. He is always back on d, takes good routes and is one of the best forecheckers in the league. Offensively, ummm....yeah, you ain't getting much there.

He isn't "soft" by any means though. While he may not make big hits, he isn't afraid to go to high traffic areas, take a hit, or park himself near the net.

My fear, if I were a Kings fan, is that this move WASN'T made with the intention of "blowing it up" but was rather seen as a hockey trade. That remains to be seen I guess.

Either way, if the Kings are out of the playoffs, I believe that Hagelin (especially if he can get up into double digits in goals) will have a lot of value. I often hear on this board "two time cup champ..." and Hagelin is that. He also has been to a third finals, scored some big playoff goals, etc. A team that has a weak penalty kill but has Cup aspirations will probably cough up a second + for him, so I think maybe some people are underrating him here.

Thanks for everything, Tanner. You helped us to a Stanley Cup, and looked good doing it.

Now onto the rest of this clusterf*** of a season. If Hagelin is resigned then oh lordy look out.
