TSN: Pearson traded to Pittsburgh

Willie said the other night on CBC after the game that he needs to cut the minutes of the top guys to keep them fresher. Hags is good on the PK so he might help with rest one of our top guys on the PK.

So on top of gaining 3.75 next year which will go to Doughty’s massive contract extension we also cut a couple minutes of PK off our top guys and maybe get a mid round pick out of the deal.

Either way the Tanner we see now is not the Tanner we had pre injury

Why would we be pursuing Panarin, he's 27 years old. This team won't be competitive until he's at least 30, at very best.

I guess I’m hopeful a retooling like what the Bruins have done can get this team refocused. Plus surrounding young guys with an extremely talented player who displays confidence when handling the puck can also benefit their development.

It won’t place as much burden on a Vilardi or Anderson-Dolan to carry a heavy workload offensively.

Eventually, the team has to transition and be led by the next generation of players, and I feel like Panarin can still give provide at least 5 more productive years, or perhaps more if he ages gracefully like Datsyuk and Larionov did.

I don't understand why Thompson isn't the first center out there. If he's not out there to be the main PKer then what's his purpose??

Jesus Christ! Are you really going to analyze a silly / sarcastic remark about a player having kids as if that had anything to do with his performance? Go outside and take a breather.

I didn't know you were being sarcastic lol. My bad.

This deal makes no sense for the Kings. We should be moving guys but for youth and picks not 30 y/o wingers.
How many people gonna keep beating this drum Pearson was never gonna fetch any youth or picks. Pitt made the swap basically two underachievers for each other see if it can spark a change in scenery.

What good is having a bunch of fast guys on your team, if you still can't score. If they can score goals, i don't care if the slow or fast.

NHL radio says horrible deal for Kings. They should be dealing a former 1st rounder for an older player when they should be dealing for young players and picks.

They think Rob Blake is delusional and thinks they are still competitive.

Cap space for what?

Why didn’t the Kings take Sprong?

Might have been discussed but the salaries of Pearson and Sprong are nowhere near a match so the deal would have had to been expanded to include more pieces/salary to even things out and it's possible the clubs just wanted to go with a straight 1 for 1 swap.

Both clubs are very close in terms of cap space.

I do not think so - am saying if he had been playing the last year and THIS year, he's a legit top 4 RD. His last game, he was best Kings D and he sits.

Saying 2 years ago, Nate Schmidt was like a jourmeyman defenseman and gets his chance and was pretty awesome in LV.
Ladue is one of those players that is going to emerge, once he plays..."well then, why don;t the Kings play him?"
Ask them. He's better than Forbort, Phaneuf, Fantenberg, and as good or better than Martinez.

Save this. One year from now, it will come to pass....but he may not be doing that here and that's a shame.
I think Ladue is better than Theodore too.

I'm taking this hardline on LaDue as well. I firmly believe he's--at worst--a Martinez-esque #5 with top-4 upside. It's utter horse shit that he isn't getting games.

I get we need depth guys that can defend and PK out there but well NO ONE is doing that so f***ing sit Phaneuf if you have to, it's not like there's a shortage of shitty LHDs to trot out there.

Yep.

Hagelin is just Austin Wagner artificially aged 10 years.

Another redundant f***ing player. Makes us faster, yet also makes us worse.

NHL radio has a hate towards the Kings. Boomer is always ripping them. No sane GM is trading picks and prospects for a struggling player making 3.75 until 2021.

I will laugh if Pearson does well in Pittsburgh.

Why though? He was doing nothing here and (maybe im going out on a limb here?) there doesn't seem to be too many teams wanting to give us only picks for 3.75 in cap hit for an under performing player. I hope he does well for his sake, but i wont feel like it was a bad trade for us. Time to move on.

Because LA is where scoring goes to die. I wouldn't be surprised if Pearson suddenly started scoring again now that he's out of this cloud of offensive suffucation.

Cap space for what?

Without knowing how much the cap is going up, it's at least cap space for Doughty's raise. That's one problem area taken care of.

Whoever is on NHL radio saying it's a horrible deal isn't looking at the deal. It's not a today move, unless something on the ice really turns around very quickly. This is the first step in Blake giving up on this current roster. The core may not go anywhere because they simply make too much money, but all the other guys might if they keep losing. Pearson was supposed to be one of the next wave after all those previous veterans had to go. Now he's gone, so the door starts to open up on other guys. However, Blake may not get a ton in return because they've played so poorly.

What the Kings should do and what they can do are quite possibly two very different things.
