TSN: Pearson traded to Pittsburgh

Salary dump and will be traded for a pick. Freed up cap space which is worth much more than Pearson today. He played himself right off the team and had ZERO value for a 26 yr old proven NHL player who can no longer score.

I think a Doughty move needs to be considered. The Leafs make sense as a destination that DD would waive for as well as having pieces that could be enticing enough to get it done.
They cant afford to sign Nylander for what he wants, they cant afford Doughty.

So we get the entire Islanders franchise??

Carl Hagelin having a good season is basically like Tanner Pearson having a bad one, stat wise. Not gonna help much. I guess it´s basically just to get rid of Pearsons contract. Might be able to flip Hagelin for a third or something at the deadline.
Pens fan here, I always like to drop in on the other side of a trade see what those more familiar think of the player they're trading away. Hagelin, I actually don't mind except for he just doesn't score. He's on a line with Malkin and he gets primo opportunities and it defies logic as to how he only has 1 goal. It might be that his Shooting% all the sudden picks up and he ends up scoring 10 goals this year. Probably not. He's not a bad all around player, just not worth $4M.

Man if Hagelin can't score playing with Malkin I'd be surprised if he scored another goal this season

I like the trade.

We can move Hagelin and we got 3 Mil off the books for a guy I'm certain we will move at the deadline.

Now we're going to find out if the rest of this mess gets the message and will actually play up to their capability or are the firings going to need to continue.

Personally I'm moving swiftly to the melt it down camp.

Wyshynski must be an idiot if he thinks Blake can turn this season around. Doughty and Kopitar are playing like dog ****.

Good move by Blake. Pearson was becoming a negative value player, and Blake unloaded him before it became obvious. Even if Pearson turns the corner, at best, he is going to be a 20 goal, 40 point scorer. At his cap hit, I would pass, especially considering I would not be willing to give him a long term deal when his contract is up.

Blake is either fully on board with selling this season, or he is clearing up cap space for a deal to bring in a player like Nylander or Panarin. I hope its the former.

Depending upon what's given, trading for Nylander could be rebuilding. He's young, a blue Chip, and could help the rebuild.

Weird trade asset wise. Wonder if this was done to shake up the roster and see if it will wake up the team knowing their jobs here aren't safe.

If this isn't that, burn it all down.

I think folks here are taking it easy on Blake with this trade for a couple of reasons.

With Doughty’s extension starting next season, the Kings needed to clear cap space regardless of anything that happened on the ice. This trade effectively does that.

The return is underwhelming because no one expects Hagelin to spur a turn around and we got zero immediate futures. Yes, we could move Hameln again, but it feels like rotatating deck chairs on some sinking vessel.

And yes, Blake was trading from a position of weakness on multiple fronts. A player who isn’t scoring, on an over paid contract with term, on a last place team.

But it was one of Blake’s first moves as GM to resign Pearson to his deal, so he’s really just moving an asset he made the wrong call on, so it’s makes the return even worse in my opinion.

I hope Pearson finds his touch again with Sid and Geno, I think he is exhibit A in the history of the Kings downfall.

There are probably less than 5 players / assets the Make Beliefs would be interested in: DD, 2019 #1 pick, Kupari, possibly Clague, Akil Thomas, JAD. That's about it. Not a fit.
The Leafs want a young, top 4 RD. Kings dont have that. IF they had been playing Ladue FULLTIME the last year, we do have that, but the Kings refuse to give him 10+
consecutive games.

Oh for sure. Greg is one of the worst journalists in the NHL. Dude talks out of his ass more than Bernstein.

It doesn't matter what Hagelin brings to the table or not. He's a warm body, and his contract expires. As of right now, that's the important part for Blake. People wanted Pearson gone. This is what happens when you sell low on a guy, and low because the player in question was doing nothing. Might've been able to get a pick if he was a UFA in July, but part of the value for a team with a bunch of bad contracts is getting rid of that $3.75m for the next 2 years.

Kings gain a valuable asset in this deal going forward in cap space. Also, as others have mentioned Hagelin can be flipped at the deadline for a pick.

One of the BEST things about this trade:

Players get to see him off and hug and maybe almost tears - GOOD - and talk about, what are you going to do with you place? Still live here in the off-season?
How's your wife taking it? So...moving to Pittsburgh.....

REALITY - MEET - DOSE - ALL - KING - PLAYERS - ON - NOTICE !!!!!!
