Purcell is still a ****ing floater. Do not miss. Glad he's productive, super friendly likeable guy, horrible for the Kings system.

Seriously, if a cup were guaranteed on that day in June 2011, I would've traded a lot more.

People here have quite the short term memory, as if winning the cup in 2012 is something to frown on because we don't still have Schenn and Simmonds? ****, I have a Simmonds jersey hanging in my closet and I would do that trade again in a heartbeat considering what we got.

Not to mention, the Kings JUST finished the regular season tying the franchise record for wins in a season. This is with two of our leaders having down years. This is just having come off a trip to the conference finals the year before, and a Stanley Cup the year before that. We have prospects coming up, a solid core. But we're down 1 game to none in the first round, so everything sucks...

I mean what the hell are people expecting here? Jeezy Creezy.

@RobertJFTC: Stoll saw 80% of his time matched against Sharks 3rd line and was shelled when the game was still 'close': +1/-12 in Corsi.

If Stoll keeps getting shelled by James Sheppard then the Kings have little hope.

Spot on.

Well let me say, as I said in the earlier post, even if the trade has gone south for the Kings, you still make it because winning one cup one year is better than having a chance to win the cup 5-6 years, you always take the guarantee.

That being said, you ask what people expected, well I think it was fair to expect, and I think management expected more than two years from Mike Richards before the wheels came off. I think most of us knew that Philly was getting a couple of nice players (and a real special one in Simmonds), but I think Dean expected Richards to play close to his prime level through atleast 2017 or 2018, and that just simply hasn't been the case. Again, I already called out Utah for saying it was a bad trade, because it wasn't, but I think it's fair to say that the long term return on the Kings end is going to be a disappointment.

And to elaborate on my earlier post -

Dustin Brown has been playing in the NHL for nine full seasons. He has scored 50+ points in six of those (if you extrapolate the lockout season in which he was on pace for 32 goals (!!!) and 51 points). The only seasons in which he has scored under 50 points was his first two full seasons (almost had 50 (46) in 06-07) and this one. Call me a homer, I don't give a damn, but I'm giving him a pass. He's scored 50 points like clockwork throughout his career. Everyone is entitled to a down year. The point I'm trying to make though is if Dustin Brown scored about 10 more goals and 25 more points, which would align him with his career average, this team would have home ice. No doubt in my mind. The Dustin Brown hate is really getting on my nerves. The guy is so consistent outside of this season in which he is obviously not 100 percent.

Totally agree can't understand all the love for these stiffs who didn't do jack when they were here.

No one has used those exact words but we've tried to trade/waive everyone but Kopitar and Doughty at some point in this thread after one game.

I have yet to see anyone who has wanted to trade Quick or Carter, everyone seems on board to bring back Gaborik. Those are the Kings five best players, trading any of them (especially Kopi, Quick, Doughty) would be considered burning it down.

When you are talking about trading unproductive players on massive long term deals, that is not burning it down. And I agree with RC as well, Brown obviously had a bad year, but to me Brown atleast showed occasional flashes and considering he is the longest tenured King and our captain I don't expect Brown to be traded this summer, but certainly when you are owed almost $50 million for the life of your contract and coming off the type of year Brown had, people are going to discuss things, and I don't think it's fair to say that would be "burning down the Kings"

I think the Oilers might be intereted in Richie; he's a leader and an experienced vet.

...and watch the Oilers offer RNH+Hall+Eberle for Mike Richards+Jeff Carter+1st round draft pick for the 2014 AND 2015 drafts+future considerations, and then, BAM! The Oilers bring Simon Gagné out of retirement. Those two scenarios could happen, as direct effects of the L.A. Kings, getting eliminated by the Sharks in the 2014 NHL Playoffs, which is the worst-case realistic scenario to happen to the L.A. Kings, this concurrent 2014 NHL Playoffs and do not want to happen in real life.

In all seriousness, don't you guys think you're all overreacting? :shakehead I notice that since the team won the Stanley Cup, most of the HFBoards fanbase started overreacting.:shakehead

"OH NO, SIMON WAS INJURED FOR MOST OF THE 2012 SEASON, EVEN WHEN HE DID HIS PART TO REUNITE MIKE RICHARDS AND JEFF CARTER! LIST HIM AS A HEALTHY SCRATCH AND TRADE HIM AS PUNISHMENT!"

"OH NO, WESTGARTH TRAINED WITH HURRICANES PLAYERS DURING THE LOCKOUT, EVEN WHEN HE LIVES IN RALEIGH! TRADE HIM AS PUNISHMENT!"

"OH NO, DANNY BOY CARCILLO, MIKE RICHARDS, AND JEFF CARTER ARE ACTING LIKE COLLEGE FRAT BOYS, EVEN WHEN IN PRIVATE AND IT'S THEIR WAY OF BONDING, SINCE THEIR PHILLY DAYS! BREAK THEM UP AS PUNISHMENT! MIKE RICHARDS SHOULD HAD KNOWN BETTER, BEING THE FORMER FLYERS CAPTAIN!"

Yes, I purposely wrote all of those in caps lock, to show how ridiculous most of them are.

The only reason why Mike Richards isn't playing like you guys claim he's supposed to is because he doesn't have that inner circle (read: now limited to Jeff Carter here in L.A.; remember Carcillo and Gagné, two natural LWs that both shoot left? Both were also his A's back in Philly) that he uses as his own personal support system, especially with the living hell he put up with, back in Philadelphia.

Back on topic, the Kings need to counter Joe Thornton and specifically for Jonathan Quick, do not get caught on classic baits and switches, which he did vs. Pavelski, back in Game 1.

Totally agree, Teddy was given plenty of chances to succeed here and didn't do squat.

I'm glad he found success in Tampa, and wish maybe we could've got more than Halpern for him, but I don't miss him one bit.

If Stoll keeps getting shelled by James Sheppard then the Kings have little hope.

All those who were in favor of moving Stoll up to the second line should pay close attention to this. Carter is the only choice we have at second line center
