So do people think the bag skate was it? Sounds like Paul has great respect for his players, yet he gives them a bag skate... was that it for Paul? Thinking what am I'm doing? I have nothing left to offer and I'm out of ideas?

Or did Chevy watch the bag skate and think to himself... here is a coach who's out of ideas?

I'll choose answer b.

It very obvious that management didn't have the balls to fire Paul and gave him a chance to save face by resigning. I wish Paul all the best he is definitely a class act. Please fire Chevy!!!

Maurice and Chevy have been together here for a number of years. Clearly, there was plenty of mutual respect and I think both parties simply agreed that it would be best for the team for Paul to resign.

The most positive thing I'm getting from this resignation is that the Jets are all in. Why let a coach go (I think it was mutual) in mid season if you don't want to win? We traded for the players to upgrade our roster, and now we're making the coaching change.

All in baby!

What people don't realize is that the "he has the most losses!" response really shows the opposite of what they think it does. For someone to be repeatedly hired despite not having had easy coaching assignments and a high winning percentage suggests that his talent is widely recognized and is what is getting him the jobs. The really bad long-time coaches are more likely to be found among those who have high winning percentages, since they can use those numbers to make a case that they're good coaches, and get new jobs, when they're really just mediocre coaches who've had the luck to coach talented teams.

No one in the top 20 NHL games coached has as low a winning % as Maurice. He has been fired 4x by 3 teams. Nearly every coach gets hired because their new team has been playing bad. The Canes won the Stanley Cup the next full season after Maurice was fired. The Jets are a very good team that is under performing.

I can't believe some are already bitching about Lowry, Jesus give the guy a shot. Why were all the lines changed back yesterday at practice? I'm going to guess that was Lowry doing that. Lets see how we look tonight for 5 minutes before saying Lowry isn't the answer.

Honestly, I am more shocked there isn't a fire Lowry thread yet.

From Copp and Lowry's media availability:

Asked about falling into a trap of too much comfort and familiarity with Paul Maurice.
Andrew Copp said:
We didn't know how to be uncomfortable anymore.

It's kind of a hard question, but I feel like if you feel so that no matter how you perform you're going to continue in your role. Then uh, that's comfortability. I don't think we had that (discomfort?).

But seriously. All the best to you Paul Maurice. One of hockey classiest guys and an extremely likeable and intelligent person. I am hopeful forms sake he can land somewhere else; wish him the best in his future.

I firmly believe there is a lot of honour within the org, including TNSE, so I am actually not surprised one bit by a resignation. Maurice has done nothing but improve the hockey culture in the Winnipeg Jets and that really goes a long way. Unfortunately the on-ice package was not where it should be so time to hand the reigns to a different bench boss to take the team to the next level.

Best of luck Paul Maurice.

Seems fairly accurate. There were players here during Maurice’s reign whose roles and ice time were firmly entrenched.

i know we talked about this before.

but that's the problem. Garrett should've been canned years prior, but Jerry was to buddy-buddy with him making it hard to fire him.

Maurice (my assumption here) actually had the balls to say i can't lead this team anymore, whereas Garrett just rode it out (hanging with a billionaire and personality like Jerry probably helped alot lol).

both maurice and garrett should've been gone way before their actual dismissals, but their relationships with the owner kept them around
The fact he should have been let go years ago and him being forced to resign are two different things. I don’t think it was Mo who finally came to the conclusion Chevy and Chipman couldn’t see. This is just when it was decided it would happen.

Agreed. Time for a change, but I have a lot of respect for PMO. Wish him all the best
