Jim Toth on CJOB saying Jim Toth things again. Claims Paul Maurice is excellent at developing young players.

I caught some of Toth's thing between 12:30 and 1pm yesterday. If you want to hear some classic Toth straw-manning and BSing go to the CJOB archive and cue up that half hour. Such a stump that guy!

I sure hope so! Can’t wait for accountability to rear its head in the coming year, even for the rest of the season
I mean Moe replaced every assistant coach on his staff over the years sans Huddy. Im Sure if he wanted to he could have replaced him.

I think everybody conducted themselves quite gracefully throughout this process. Paul Maurice is a great man and great leader, but unfortunately that didn't translate to success on the ice. I do hope that he stays around TNSE in some capacity, since he genuinely believes in this team and our fanbase believes in him. The old guard slate should be cleared to move forward without Huddy or Flaherty, since the message from both of them has no doubt grown stale, and I'm cautiously optimistic about making a change to Lowry, although I do hope he isn't made permanent at this time. I hope Kompon returns soon, with good news from his family, as well. I do wonder if Pascal Vincent somehow makes his way back, or if that bridge is burned at this point. The timing of this to be quite odd, given that it's a game day, but these situations aren't always perfect.

I hope we see new energy tonight, with a fresh outlook on ways to succeed. We're still in it for this year!

He can sure talk the great talk, but that's part of the problem. Sports are a result industry, and he was no longer getting the results, no matter how positive he sounds.

If he wants to come off as positive in his own resignation, let him - it's not part of any problem and he's entitled to it.
I understand your point but he wasn't up there defending himself.
IDK - maybe just let him ride off into the sunset with one last speech - I thought he handled himself very well and called out the fact that they needed new leadership.

this bothers me. call it knee-jerk, ignorant or whatever, it shouldn't have been maurice realizing thi and quitting. maurice taking the onus publicly takes balls.
You really don’t think this was mutual and how Maurice likely wanted it done? At the very least they allowed him to walk out on his own terms without having to show him the door. Being fired from your job can be pretty humiliating, they just found a way to avoid that for a man they clearly respect.

I don't think anyone was actually replaced, Maurice just added new staff. Perry Pearn was fired with Claude Noel, not by Maurice.

Choosing his pride over money. One last poor decision on his way out. The guy is nothing if not consistent.

Guys like Vincent were reassigned and Woodcroft left.

Vincent was hired out of the QMJHL by Maurice though, he wasn't a Claude Noel hire and neither was Woodcroft.
My point was that Huddy and Flaherty were the two assistants that stuck through Maurice and Noel's tenure. Maurice added the video coach (Woodcroft) and assistant turned associate (Vincent) later.

Well Kyle Connor was a young player under Maurice, Scheifele, Morrissey, Ehlers, Copp were all young when Maurice took over, so yeah Toth is right. This BS about him not giving young players a chance is a fallacy. He was a damn good coach for us but coaches only have a certain shelf life and Maurice had reached his.

of course it's mutual. you need to go through the proper steps to quit your job.

the problem is that it was mutual, instead of ownership seeing a guy who hasn't gotten it done for nearly 4 years and making a move sooner. call it cut-throat, but if you're underperforming that's what you have to do. do you think maurice initiated this entire thing or ownership? i believe it's maurice, perhaps you think different.... but imo since it's maurice who did, i think that's the issue (this is my own assumption though).

You really think Maurice will not get the same amount of money in his settlement then he would of if he was officially fired? Not a chance.......

Incorrect Vincent was here right from the beginning of 2.0 and was a Noel hire.

Yep, you're right. I just checked and he was hired in 2011. Under Maurice he was promoted to associate coach, though I'm not sure if his responsibilities actually changed?
