I mean we've seen the assistant take over a number of times and do well so I'm not going to discount him. I think it's also premature to say he has the same message. He's his own coach with his own systems and messaging imo. I'd expect his schemes and messaging to be different then Moe's.

I honestly hope so...

Chevy just said Lowry will be coach for the rest of the year... :help:

Dave is a good Coach who has coached in the whl and has been an nhl assistant for years not just with Winnipeg

Give him a chance. Besides all the real good guys are assistants with their current teams or running ncaa teams and will likely be available off season

Nobody gonna come in and change the world right now. Gotta give Dave time here. Might surprise.

Love Mo, but I remember being in the stands in Raleigh chanting "Mo must go" and then, a few years later, "Mo must go again". Every coach has his time.

The first time, we replaced him with Peter Laviolette. If you can manage that, I would recommend it. The second time, we replaced him with Kirk Muller, and I would definitely not recommend that.

He's the best interview in hockey, though. I still miss his press conferences. (Though Brindy learned a lot from him and gives a pretty great presser himself.)

Good luck to you guys.

The thing is... without having a replacement for Maurice ( and the rest of the staff IMO ) and we play the rest of the season with a intern-Head Coach, all we have done is write off the rest of the season.

Lowry takes over the reigns, but he's been here a while, so how is his message or voice going to be any different? It won't be IMO. Sure, maybe we see the initial "coach gets fired team plays better" push for a few games, but after that, what really changes?

Without bringing in that new voice, I see nothing changing.

I would much prefer the org to have found their guy and fired Mo. I don't really like this situation...I like Po Mo and wish him well, but I don't like the way this has played out.

We'll still get a bounce IMO, and we could do worse than aggressively integrating Gus / Heinola / Perfetti.

Also Lowry should definitely be given a chance. I think we saw some of his schemes on display vs Edmonton last playoffs and we looked good.

Lowry was a very good junior coach that from what I remember Joe saying runs a very aggressive scheme. He also has Stanley Cup winning pedigree as an assistant coach with the Kings. I am fully willing to give him a chance.
Yeah, I think a lot of people's memories about Lowry as a coach comes from that one WJC when Canada did really poorly.

There is no one experienced head coach without a job that I'm super interested in right now. I have no issue with seeing what Lowry can do with this team as an interim.

I'll miss Paul. He is a great guy. I just don't think he was the right coach with this team anymore. It was time.
