of course it's mutual. you need to go through the proper steps to quit your job.

the problem is that it was mutual, instead of ownership seeing a guy who hasn't gotten it done for nearly 4 years and making a move sooner. do you think maurice initiated this entire thing or ownership? i believe it's maurice, perhaps you think different, and i think that's an issue.
I really doubt this was initiated by Maurice. This has likely been talked about for some time. Things like this don’t just come out of the blue, c’mon. They weren’t going to fire him coming into the season, coming off a playoff series win over the Oilers and an improved roster for him to have a chance with.
Performance reviews are a pretty big part of any well run organization. When someone gets fired, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to them. I really doubt this came to this conclusion without both parties having discussed it previously in one form or another.

As much as I wanted to see some change, I do have to say I have enjoyed what Maurice has brought to the organization, and it seems like he has been a quality person throughout his time here. It's just too bad it didn't seem like he was going to take this team any further.

Well said.
I feel this way about him as well. A strong, honest character, but the team had stalled and needed a change.

I can't believe some are already bitching about Lowry, Jesus give the guy a shot. Why were all the lines changed back yesterday at practice? I'm going to guess that was Lowry doing that. Lets see how we look tonight for 5 minutes before saying Lowry isn't the answer.
f***ing Maurice sewing some chaos on his way out.:shakehead

Good riddance… couple years to late.

Blowing his own horn on his way out…

yes obviously it was discussed you cant just throw a press-conference saying i quit w/o it being discussed.

i am basing this off what maurice said - "this was 100% my decision." maybe it's a bit ignorant to do so, perhaps it's maurice taking the public onus on him. who knows. it should have been ownerships decision to remove him, and should have happened a while ago.

Coaches do get fired even after strong runs. maurice one won 1 round in 3 years. barely a reason to keep a guy around.

Lowry is getting his chance. I just sorta wish our remaining "window" with this group was being given to a guy with stanley cup credentials rather than a rookie HC...and I find it hard to believe this was what the org would have had in mind if they were about to fire the coach.

I mean Pittsburgh won their cup on the backs of an inexperienced HC in Sullivan.

I didn't want a retread so I am happy we are getting a different perspective.

Sad but relieved.

Paul was/is a good coach and will be working again as soon as he wants to.

Regardless that he will no longer be behind our bench, his hands will still be tied to any of our success for the next couple of seasons. He graduated to the NHL almost every 1st round pick made during his tenure. He worked relentlessly trying to make us the team we all believe we can be, but in the end he could not get us to the finish line.

This team should be hanging their heads in failure this morning. A good man lost his job which everyone in that room had a part in. If this wake up call does nothing to right the ship, next cuts come to our apparent core.

Get your sh#t together Jets and lets turn this around starting tonight.

I mean sure, but "the good man who lost his job" played a major part in that failure -- that's part of why he lost his job.

I have met PM on multiple occasions in my line of work, and he is a genuine and compassionate person who does not shy away from difficult conversations and even profoundly tragic situations, and for that I have great respect. As a coach he brought some real and lasting improvements to the team and org when he came in, but he plateaued and his time was clearly up, although I have no doubt that he'll find a new landing spot as soon as he likes, and do well in it.

I am excited to see the Jets play an adjusted game under a new coach, and hopefully a new assistant coaching team eventually. I am fully expecting them to do themselves proud. Plenty of grounds for optimism with this roster.

I'm sure there are plenty of bad coaches with with stanley cup credentials who just had the right team at the right time and that their experiences wouldn't transition well to coaching the Jets. The stanley cup coaches might not be the best fit for us, moreover once you have won a cup you have more choices and are not coming to coach in Winnipeg. Better to find a just as good coach from elsewhere who will embrace Winnipeg. Granted that's a tall task.
Speaking in the arts not all the best actors are in hollywood, sometimes lesser talents are in the right place at the right time, and amazing talents never get the right opportunity to get recognized.

Well, thanks for the years you were here Mo. I always liked you. All the best to you in the future, you'll probably be our next assistant GM

It was time for Maurice to go as his message has worn thin with the players. However, I’m not celebrating this turn of events because Maurice is a good and decent person. The team hopefully end up with a better record as a result but sad when a good person can’t succeed.

Like most have said, obviously a great person, but no longer the coach we need.

All nicely said, thats where I'm coming from.

Lowry is the interm head coach, i actually like this because if the rest of the season goes bad it gives Chevy alot of time to get another coach. If it goes well with Lowry we have our new coach.

Lol
Reading these comments it cements my position that Jets fans can NEVER be happy!!
You wanted him gone, he’s gone. But he didn’t get fired, should have been fired! Lol who cares? He’s gone isn’t he?
Then it’s Lowry isn’t good enough, we need a better coach. AV? Babcock?…Torts haha!!
Watch
When we finally do win a Cup you bozos will complain about how the Captain held the Cup wrong and passed it off to the wrong guy first! Lol

Good luck PoMo! You definitely made this team a better team from what you took over.

It's impressive how you somehow managed to read like 3 of the 300 posts here to reach this conclusion.

Do they call you Stretch Armstrong?
