I thought that concussion was a bit more extreme than the media reported/knew.
injuries happen, but that concussion definitely seemed like a turning point for Patty. He was never right after that. Even when he came back he was a shell of himself. I really hope that doesn’t impact him long term.

Wouldn't be shocked to hear that Vegas is interested in him, especially since Marchessault is likely going to walk in 2 weeks.

I would. Marner makes marginally more sense. Guentzel a lot more. We just watched a similar type of player in Mantha be a healthy scratch because he wouldn't play physical two way hockey for Cassidy. Laine and Cassidy would not mesh IMO.

All the rejections of cap dump trades are a bit confusing. Laine at 8.7M doesn't have much if any positive value and no contender can fit the salary in anyway. The return pretty much has to be a cap dump, along with a collection of assets maybe a bit in excess of what it would have cost to dump that cap elsewhere. As a Canucks fan I'd do Mikheyev, Poolman, a prospect not named Lekkermaki or Willander and a 1st.

I don't want my Habs to acquire him.

Historically, Laine has had a long list of problems...

He has a lot of talent, but...

We want to build something solid in MTL, but I'm not sure that as of now, our (young) leadership core is strong enough to positively influence a player with a problematic history like him.

Afaic, the risk is the other way around, that the rotten fruit would contaminate our young guys...

So for me it's a big no.

As a neutral fan, is there interest in a Laine for Huberdeau swap? Putting Hubs with Gaudreau center by Jenner could be a good top line. Plenty of cap space, solid group of young players...

In return, Calgary gets a short term player that they can send out at the TDL next year and it helps them with a bit of a "reset" when it comes to roster building.

Past 2-years he was the offensive driver in CBJ

Out of 17 Fs who played at least 200 5 on 5 minutes for CBJ last year:

Last on Fs last year in CF%
2nd to last in FF%
3rd to last in SF%
Last in xGF%
Last in SCF%
2nd to last in HDCF%
5th out of 17 in G/60* His best showing
Last in Assists/60
3rd from last in Primary Assists/60
Last in secondary assists /60 (literally didn't have any)
Last in IPP
3rd from last in Shots/60
2nd from last in iXG/60
12th out of 17 in Ind. CF% and FF%
11th in Ind.SCF/60
13th in Ind. HDSCF/60
Tied for last in Rush Attempts/60 (had no rush attempts)
3rd from last in Rebounds created/60
Worst in Giveaways/60

Waiting for the 'Yeah but the eye test shows he was the offensive driver" response.

I like this for Calgary much more than I like it for Columbus, but if I'm Calgary, I'd see if they bite.

2024 WPG 1st, Mike Matheson, Josh Anderson

for,

Patrik Laine, Kent Johnson
Inclusion of Josh Anderson ends any conversation immediately.

Drop him, switch Matheson to Guhle, and maybe we talk.

Edit: You know how you're laughing at this? That's how we feel about deals involving Anderson. Montreal is, believe it or not, not the only team in the NHL. Crazy, I know.

He likely misspoke, and meant last 2 'healthy' years. So 21-22 and 22-23.

Last year was a huge flop after andersson took his head off.

Last year, where he played 18 games and was healthy for three of them? Small sample and disingenuous framing, well done. Now go look at 2022-23.

How is it disingenuous when the post I responded to said the last 2 years? I was supposed to assume he meant 3 years ago? If you have a problem with the framing, bring it up with the poster I was responding to.

Nah, more like switch Anderson for Dvorak and we can talk. Dvorak and Jets 1st is a good starting point and not sure any other team gives more. Habs might add a 3rd piece like a B+ prospect or Avs 2nd.

I am not that interested in Johnson. Matheson won't be in this trade regardless of either of Laine or Johnson.

Many Habs fans probably decline anyways. 2 more years and then what? He walks potentially. I do believe if Laine was with Suzuki, he rebounds. But not so sure this turns the needle for the long term vision the Habs are after.

Vegas might be the best fit if they have pieces to trade with.

so... is it still relevant?

maybe, maybe not.
Yeah; over at HFCBJ we're wondering if perchance he'll reconsider and opt to stay after leaving the PAP. Certainly makes it seem like we can laugh off ripoff attempts that much more easily.

I don't doubt he's still potentially available, tho. Just, not for "cap dump"/"we pay you to take him" type prices.

I just don't understand how it makes sense for CBJ to take on an undesirable contract or retain.
I would imagine it is, I give that much credit to LeBrun as an insider that he wouldn't have just reported on "old news".

Am I to understand that you're comparing his stats from 18 games (204:58), 14 of them post-concussion, which was one of the reasons he's in the assist program? Great idea. 😉

From the 2022/23 (more than 500 minutes) stats:

To be fair, I wouldn’t really wanna play in Winnipeg or Columbus either.

Weird career, hope he can turn it around again. I think he’ll still find a good groove if he can return healthy and happy.
