Winnipeg might do it though..
Yeah they are in a weird spot but could get a ton of futures if they decide to do a scorched earth rebuild. My big question if that were the case is what would they do with Morrisey

On the other side I dont know if Winnipeg on a buisness side can survive a long rebuild so I doubt he in particular would be available but would be a great target for a huge amount of teams

If teams want to call and give up a D or center for him? I’ll listen. I don’t anticipate this and I think he’s got a big year ahead of him.
In terms of asset management, first good moment to move him could be next summer, provided he will be coming off a healthy and more productive season than the previous two. But if FO already feels Laine won't be able to do his part in maintaining team's "standards" as high as they want and therefore his name is going to be in trade talks, then I don't think they should be waiting and asking for a specific return. Just make a trade if the value is met.

Interesting

I don't know how St. Lois envisions the Jets and us trading one of the best player minimum for a draft pick, even a first-rounder. Neither is a player that could be traded for just a 1st rounder. There would have to be a minimum of two quality players, with one of the Buchnevich (started playing center after O'Reilly left and supposedly played well)/Thomas duo. In addition, it's possible that Laine will play center.

I have a feeling that's a mantra in his case. Oh, and Porty's favourite words, who also blames him for the snow in the Sahara. I'm not talking about the others, we're not in their thread.

Might have been true in the past but he's really rounded out his game over the last couple seasons and this year all the lines had better possession numbers with Laine than without him.

I stand corrected as the numbers look positive as you described first time in his career.

Apart for his first CBJ season (bad) his numbers have been pretty good for some time, and they reflect his play as well.

I suppose you are "victim" of Finnish hockey journalism by guys like Tommi Seppälä who are basically reduced themselves as lazy stat-watchers, and they usually only check those most basic ones like goals, assists and shots. When there are 32 teams and over 730 players on NHL, I am not really blaming journalists for not knowing their stuf. I am blaming them for not being humble enough to admit they can either know 1 team very well or 32 teams only skin deep. It's practically impossible task to know 32 teams and their hundreds of players well and follow them closely. Best ones might be some like the Hockey Guy on YouTube, and yet they aren't perfect.

Yeah it's a new thing for him but watching him play it's been going in that direction for some time now. For the past couple seasons, if the team scores a goal with him on ice, he has a point on around 80% of them, which is a really high number league wide. So the puck goes through him a lot more than it used to in Winnipeg.

While his play in 20-21 was utter crap, I think it was a good season for the long term since he seemed to came out a better overall player after having gone through a year of Torts :)

Yeah hoping for a big and healthy season for Laine. Hopefully this center experiment has lit a fire up his *** to work even harder. Not sure how he'll take Jarmo's recent words or if there's any real truth to them, but hopefully he takes it all in a good way.

While I like Seppälä and read his articles, this rings so true. It's not long ago that he said something like Adam Fox is a bust or shouldn't get the recognition he was starting to get. Yeah that turned out well...

Seppälä unleashed pile of crap over Barkov as he had less than PPG for the first playoffs games. To Seppälä that did mean that Barkov is only good in regular season and not usable in playoffs. Turns out that Barkov was just really sick for the first games and after that he has been phenomenal and easily one of the most valuable players on these playoffs making it nightmare for the oppositing team stars like Matthews and Marner.

Hot takes often backlash, and Seppälä's hot take on Barkov certainly did.

Still the price rumored is ridiculous. Would take all 3 picks to get Connor. He is locked up for 3 more years on a good contract.
And then PO comes in, a better forechecking team (not tired Tampa) and we can look for Marner under the microscope.

There's one more thing. I won't believe the various behind the scenes talk about the character of the players, we don't hold a candle. But people have taken off the situation saying that Mitch is not a ideal locker room player. If that's true, why we should risk?

Wow, quite an assumption. There are lots of victims of Finnish hockey media, as the narrative for years was that line mates of Laine are not good enough for him. Still, even though numbers have gotten better, Laine has huge deficiencies in his game. I have never understood why Jarmo went after Laine.

Well now I'm getting into language and what's meant by certain phrases but I wouldn't say that Jarmo "went after" Laine. Yes, there were reports around the 2016 draft and right after the trade that Jarmo had liked Laine, but the acquisition of the player from Winnipeg in exchange for Dubois I don't think was ever in the plans until PLD's behavior necessitated some kind of action. At that point, Laine/Roslovic might have been the best he could have hoped for in return, but I don't think that equates to "going after" Laine.

Look at transition and especially, defense.
Btw, he had 63 or 64 in the season 2021/22.

Powerplay being his worst stat is pretty funny. Forever he has been talked about as powerplay specialist
In the Jets they really had the perfect setup for him. Especially when Big Buff (right handed QB) was still there. Wheeler one of the best passers in the game, Scheifele in the middle so that he opponent has to respect that as well. Of course the coaching/tactics play a part as well.

Interesting to see how it goes with Babcock (and whoever runs the pp). And which D we’ll see having the most time on the first PP. And will Laine mostly be on the left side or do they switch it up with Johnny at times.

Too bad, but perhaps not the strongest off-season? Parted ways with a longtime girlfriend? Consuming tobacco products?
