Buffalo honestly has 0 need for another scoring winger. If anything, I suspect we may need to clear some older/lower ceiling bodies out of the way up front to make room for Savoie an possibly Kulich next season. If Kane were a grizzled vet RHD and wanted to come home as a UFA, great. But as a small scoring winger, the fit just isn't there even presuming something he's interested in.

Kane after surgery probably is a lot better.

Kane skates and plays like it’s an inconvenience to do anything but pass, shoot, or stick handle. He was visibly demoralizing out there.

Either goes to Buffalo to finish out career as elder statesman on team on the rise who are on cusp of playoffs or he signs cheap UFA deal with cap constrained contender in searching for cup (TB, Vegas, etc)

Would he consider signing with NYI if they can find a way to move cap out?

I know Barzal is basically googly eyes for Kane, so it would be cool to find a way to make that happen.

I have a weird feeling he's going to the Panthers next year, cheapish one-year deal. NYR probably doesn't want him/can't afford him, Chicago is rebuilding, Buflo isn't likely. Maybe Vegas as a second choice?
I smell a Toews & Kane reunion in Vegas. Nobody loves shiny toys like them, and those combined 6 cup rings (and numerous other awards) are pretty damn shiny... even if the players are near the end of their careers

No matter where he signs, I bet Kane takes the first part of next season off to get the surgery or surgeries he seems to badly need. Recuperate from those, rest up and find that competitive spark again, then sign with the team having the best season for a reduced/pro-rated amount.

Edmonton would be an incredible fit though, good chance they enter the season with this as their forward situation up until the deadline:

Kane-McDavid-Hyman
RNH-Draisaitl-Kostin ($1.5M)
Foegele-McLeod-Holloway/Lavoie/Bourgault/?
?-?

He would be an exceptional fit on the second line/PP even with his reduced abilities.

That seems long gone. I doubt he has anything left and will again bumble through playing out the string somewhere.

Both Kanes together is the lineup we've been waiting for

Dude has made $115 million in his career. He doesn't have much to prove at this point. Get the hip surgery ASAP and sign with a contender after the season starts.

Islanders need the speed and skill. He could be a fit with barzal or Horvat.

Kane is still quick in tight spaces, but he’s actually not that fast anymore in a straight line. Part of the reason he cheats and floats more than ever. He needs the headstart down the ice.

I'd say that Kane could be a similar addition for Buffalo as Giroux has been for Ottawa, but he really seems to be the complete opposite in terms of his remaining desire to play hockey competitively...

I’d take him in San José on a one year deal and hope to flip him at the deadline but some contender always gets suckered into signing a washed up champion.

If he's going to sign cheap and needs surgery, he might as well wait until he's healed (or healthy enough to play) and make a choice then. Teams will have more cap room and he'll have a better idea of who are true contenders (assuming a Cup is his #1 priority).
