Is this the incident you are referring to?

It’s funny how we are conditioned to think that violent hits with head into boards are fine when it’s the back of the head. Like it’s not still a dangerous hit.

No problem with Pasta taking a number and having a long memory over that hit. But the hit he gave Lindgren back deserved the 5 and a game.

I hate the Bruins but what i hate worst is how players now turn their back to oncoming players to avoid getting hit.

I agree with you regarding what Barron did to put himself in danger.

But this hit was predatory from the get-go. He had ample time to hold up and he didn't.

2 x games suspension IMO. But this the NHL for a fine only.

"Whataboutism" is rampant here. Officiating doesn't help with inconsistent calls across a period, never mind across a game or a season.

Along the way of hitting, stuff happens, such as this, and you get the penalty for it. Pastrnak made sure he finished his checks on Lindgren every shift. Knowing Lindgren's a bit beat-up from the last couple games and targeting the LD is a viable game plan--no problem with that.

Lindgren got absolutely plastered last game. Hate to see our guy take a hit like that, but you can't be mad when the guy has his head down. No problem with that.

I don't think a suspension is necessary as a NYR fan. The 5 and the game is enough. No question that hockey is played fast, but the puck was moving and most guys finish the check with a bump or a pin. It wasn't a last-minute turn on Lindgren's part.

He shouldn't have been reaching like that, as we've said with numerous big hits this season, but the rules protect vulnerable players, and a guy like Lindgren, who's always at 100%, is going to take the risk to forward the play.

41.3 Major Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a major penalty, based on the degree of violence of the impact with the boards, to a player guilty of boarding an opponent (see 41.5).

41.5 Game Misconduct Penalty - When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed.

So there you go. Referee felt the hit was violent enough to warrant the major, and, with Lindgren sustaining a couple cuts to the face, that's your game misconduct.

Amazing that there are actually people who see this and say that Lindgren turns into the hit.

What the f*** are you talking about?

If he's "coasting with his back to the play" he's not making a sudden move and not eligible to be hit like that. "What are you supposed to do?" Well... pin him. Do, like, anything but launch through his upper body.

I love how you're all over the technicality of the rules in every other sense and like to play referee but suddenly now you're "if you have the puck you need 360 radar"... your back still has to be towards someone eventually. It's almost kind of like that's why there are rules to protect it while also protecting against the abuse of it. Here there's no change of position, no swift and sudden reason for Pastrnak to get confused, he just races from the slot to tee off on a guy who never did anything but show numbers.

Seriously, what?!

My man, take a deep breath.

I agree with the call on the ice, which is why I labeled it a bad hit in the first three words of that post. It might have been a charging call regardless of Lindgren’s approach, just as a consequence of the distance and number of load-up strides Pastrnak chose to make. I’m not arguing against the call.

But this did not have to be a hit-from-behind scenario. Lindgren looks directly at Pastrnak well in advance of contact, knows he’s coming in hot and has all the time in the world to decide what to do, and makes a deliberate choice to show his numbers and slide laterally while reaching at the puck. That’s pretty much asking for a boarding situation and potentially an injury much worse than what we saw here. NHL players should not have the instinct to do what he did. You see a guy coming at you with bad intentions, you don’t turn your damn numbers while standing arm’s length from the boards. That’s a career-shortening instinct on his part.

Watching it live last night, I thought it looked worse than it does in the video.
Lindgren starts to skate behind the net and Pasta in the same direction to hit him. Lindgren pivots as he gets to the puck and Pasta finishes the check, could he have held up, I don’t know. It looked like the point of contact was mostly on Lindgren left shoulder, where he would have turned. Lindgren was obviously shadowing Pasta last night, as the two were battling a lot. I might give him a game, at most two, but the five was Probably enough

Last season Lindgren checked an off balance pastrnak into the boards. Nothing too bad - probably a little late but not dangerous. Pasternak then hunted him down and clubbed Lindgren in the head later in the play (think it was the same play). Lindgren went out with a concussion for a game or two. Clearly that wasn’t enough payback. Lined up Lindgren earlier today and then this one.
If you can’t stand the heat get out the kitchen Lindy! Pastrnak is sneakily a feisty guy. This year more than usual.

Probably a 1 game suspension imo- call on the ice might’ve been enough though. As dumb as it is the fact Lindgren shook it off probably will help Pasta as we all know the league punishes the result more than the action

Good thing he didn’t murder anyone. What with it being pre-meditated and all.

5 Minute major and kicked for the game is deserved. But stop with the “pre-meditated“ drama. Please.
He was clearly targeting Lindgren because of previous beef. I don’t understand the willful ignorance of that.
