The onus is on the hitter. The rules are pretty clear about that.

You teach guys to not put themselves in vulnerable positions for their own protection. That doesn't change the rules.

As far as a fine or suspension, or whatever, I really don't care. If Pastrnak were to miss games not against the Rangers, I wouldn't notice.

The 5 and a game was the correct call.

I think many people are missing the bigger picture. Pasta is a goal scorer, not a banger. The sad truth is that the Bruins are so soft now that he got frustrated, off his game, and felt he needed to do something he shouldn't have to. Sure, he made a quick bad decision, and will be held accountable for it, but to me the root cause was the result of a deficiency in Boston.

It’s all evened up now, scumbag Trouba teed off on Frederic head with a stick, pasta boarded a guy.

If Pasta could play with that kind of grit 30% of the rest of the time, he'd be special.

Think they got this one right. The match penalty was enough.
Nitpick: it wasn't a match penalty. It was a major and a game misconduct. A match penalty would have been an automatic hearing.

The fact that someone else made a [really] dangerous play and the Department of "Player Safety" inexplicably decided not to take action shouldn't encourage other players to similar make dangerous plays. We should be demanding the Department of "Player Safety" to do better. Much better. And really, as has been evident for years now, we should be demanding everyone in the Department of "Player Safety" - especially the guy heading up the department - be removed and new people put in charge who will take player safety seriously instead of treating it like a lark and the job as a post-retirement, do-little source of income.

My fear, though, is that the NHLPA is OK with all of this in part or in whole - which, if that's the case, I would argue is an even stronger comment for getting rid of the Do"PS" entirely.

I think Lindgren turns into the boards at the last second but I don't like Pasta's speed that he came in for the hit. Gave himself no time to adjust to Lindgren turning. Could have easily tacked a charge on that hit and he deserves the 5 and game.

There was no Lindgren turn. This was 100% on Pastrnak.

"Targeting". Whiny homer.

Two minute minor hit. Lindgren bailed on taking a hit and Pastrnak drove through the arm.

This title needs to be changed. Embarrassing.

Classic. You complain about someone else being a homer and then go full homer yourself in the very same post. There was no bail on hit by Lindgren. He just gets run in the numbers.

This will be full of Bruins fans explaining is was an accident and in fact Lindgren's fault.
If the league is trying to take this type of hit out of the game, they need to suspend him. If the league thinks that it is needed then don't suspend him. The league has a decision to make and it's up to them. In my mind, get that garbage out of the game and suspend him to send a message that it is not approved type of hit in this league.

That's absolutely fine and I think many would agree with you. However if the decision is that these types of hits are going to be suspended then alert everyone to that fact. I say that because, without any difficulty at all, one can find a number of these hits - this season alone - that are essentially the same and have not received any supplemental discipline.

Whatever the League decides, they cannot act like an 18 wheeler driving along in the fast lane suddenly deciding to make an exit without turning on a signal and despite being within 500 yards of the actual exit.

Yeah. I think it's time for the league to start now and be consistent with it. You do not want to see any brawl for retribution so if you take an action now, retribution wouldn't be needed since justice has been served via the suspension. It is not too late to start being consistent. Remember, it is a human nature to test their mettle and see how much they can get away with it.

Pasta got 5 and the game, and the Rangers won. I don't think any Rangers fans care about whether or not he gets suspended
2-0 on the season and Spaghetti getting himself ejected def helped the Rangers close that game out since he's most of their offense. I hope he runs Lindgren next time too lol.

Look at where Lindgren's skates are pointing when he's going for the puck and glances over his shoulder. Then look at where his skates are pointing right before the hit - they're both facing the boards. If he keeps his skates pointing at the puck, he takes that hit hard on the shoulders. Instead, he chooses to pivot and show Pasta his back. Lindgren is lucky Pasta got mostly his arm.

Pasta deserved the 5 and game. Personally, it looked more like a clear cut charge than a board. I do think Lindgren needs to better protect himself since he seems to get blown up a lot.
