Looks like Dubas is not the only big payday GM, Sandin just signed for $4.6 mil over 5 years... HOLY SWEET F###
It's alot and maybe was best leafs did trade him. No offense to him but that's a lot of money.

It's not so much the list of injures but the seriousness of the injury, reading St Lou boards they are saying that since his back injury in 2021 he has not been the same elite two way defender. I never really though of him as a two way defender, more a big body that plays top matchups really well.

so he's missed 5+ games due to injury only twice in his 9 year career. once was 7 games. the other 21 other then those 2 injuries he's missed one game here one game there type of thing?

altogether he's missed 44 games in his 9 year career? can't believe Injuries are even brought up.

Yep, plus he plays his position defensively. He's lucky to not have been injured more. If blues are on board and Parayko wants to I'm all for getting him.

Not sure why so many people can’t comprehend that this isn’t fantasy hockey or an NHL’24 video game.

You absolutely CANNOT continue to give up draft picks and prospects for players in their 30’s with long term deals of $5M to $11M.

That asinine approach is why the Leafs are stuck with washed up TJ Brodie and John Tavares and have ZERO cap room and ZERO draft picks or prospects.
They have some though they have been depleted.

I doubt it happens but I think he would be perfect beside Rielly. Considering what Sandin just got paid, I wouldn't worry about years 5-6 with a rising cap.

Is there any way they make it work this year without unloading Brodie, or is that the only way?

I'm hoping the Leafs consider it. He's likely the most reasonably priced (in terms of trade assets) guys who can potentially be available.

Yes the contract is concerning to an extent but there's always ways to get rid of them if the time comes to it

Also, were not the oldest team in the league. We have what 5-6 players over 30 or something. Some are barely over 30. Reeves and Giordano have to be in there upper 30s. Gio is hurt with a concussion and Reeves mostly plays on 4th line. We are definitely not the youngest team but we're close to middle of the pack by age.

Bringing in veterans in their 30’s like Giordano and Reaves is fine becaus:

A) they’re free agents and cost ZERO picks or prospects to acquire

B) they’re only getting minimum wage or slightly above minimum

C) they’re on short term deals of 1yr to 3yr max

A guy like Paryako is the complete opposite. The acquisition cost is going to be exorbitant (FYI - - exorbitant means a lot). The cap hit is a brutal $6.5M. There’s still FIVE (5) more years remaining on that boat anchor contract.

Acquiring Parayko is the kind of move that Kyle Dumbass would make.

I would not give up much for Parayko. First, STL would need to retain salary and agreement with Parayko that the last 3 years of his contract, he would likely need to be OK with going on Robidas Island (LTIR).

It can be done as a wink-wink deal, MLSE has the financial means to do these type of moves where we can bury a contract under LTIR and all it equates to is money which MLSE has plenty of

I mean Parayko at 6.5 might be better than signing Pesce to a 7 mill plus deal this off season IMO
or 34 year old Tanev. And I want Tanev.

We should probably expect a Muzzin-like tour of duty. If we can squeeze 3+ good years out of Parayko, I say do it. We can always Robidas folks, we can always Robidas.

He would need to be injured to go on LTIR, it’s not something negotiated

Been wanting Parayko for like 5 years now, he's a bit older but still a big physical presence, would be a rock defensively and change the look of the defence pretty drastically. You'd have Parayko/McCabe/Benoit on the back end, all big physical mean players.

It gets brought up because his role has changed, and people confuse that with a difference in ability. He used to get PP time. Now he's used as a shut-down specialist. As I have posted before, Parayko plays the most non-PP minutes in the entire league.

Buchnevich
Parayko
peeke looked good yesterday plus 2 and was top 4 in ice time thru 40 minutes we gotta rescue that guy and send off brodie no physicality

Don’t ask me what pieces go to make it happen. Treliving makes more money than me and I’m not going to do his job for him…..
