I don’t see it

This just looks like a stand pat year from the organization, similar to 19-20

Tre hinted that he wasn’t done, so maybe there’s a move out there, but all the big names are off the board. If we are just gonna grab someone like peeke, I’d rather save the assets and roll with what we have. Good enough the make the playoffs, and we will see what we can do.

If that Lindholm to Boston rumour is confirmed though…we are probably gonna be first round fodder

Edit; forgot to talk about this trade

I don’t mind it, even if he’s a bit old, I think he could be very useful in a top4 role on the right side. I just dont think St. Louis deals him without a deal they think they win

He would be a nice fit, similar to Schenn last year. This also has overpayment written all over it. If only we used all that Klingberg money on Schenn.

If we could knock his deal down to Brodies cap hit and send Brodie out to STL in the deal, id be willing to take a chance on him.

My only concern is back injuries. Its what ruined Gardiner from being a 2nd pairing D man. Ruined Muzzins career. And Parayko has had back injuries in 2021 that caused him to miss 20 games.

If its a low cost, I'd be okay with it. Parayko has been on the leafs radar for a while I think. Sometimes its worth it to try it. If his injury causes issues LTIRisland it is.

wouldn't be the first time the Leafs acquired a injured player at the deadline, Nick Folino says hi, and I think it was his back too..........

So how do you fit that under our cap?

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Domi - Nylander
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Robertson
Holmberg - Kampf - McMann

Rielly - Parayko
Brodie - Liljegren
McCabe - Benoit
Giordano - Lyubushkin

Woll
Jones

not saying I want to make this trade but this lineup leaves us with 200k in cap space according to cap friendly. so you could move Samsonov in the deal back to St, Louis. and have space.

I’ve been gaslighting myself into thinking this would be a good move the past few days after being vehemently against it. My reasons being that a “perfect” RHD is probably never going to be available and Parayko at his best is the closest player to what we need/want.

That cap hit and term is terrifying though. If he comes here and looks like Phaneuf at his worst we’ve f***ed ourselves until the end of the Matthews era. However, that contract could also help in bringing the acquiring cost down, making him cheaper to acquire in a trade and if he plays well the deal could look like a coup.

It would be nice to have a defensively responsible giant on our backend to sick against Boston after having to face Chara for years. Parayko isn’t as tall or heavy but he’d be the biggest guy on the ice between the two teams.

It’d take some big cajones to make this deal as this would be a “flag in the ground” moment. It’d be saying that Parayko is the missing piece we need, contract and term be damned.

Parayko in, Brodie out works for me.

Seeing as how their cap is going to be maxed one way or another for the next 5+ years may as well spend some of it on a right-shot D that they have desperately needed for years.

I think any top 6 NHL calibre right-hand shooting D who plays the right side would make this team better.

Obviously you have to get into the cap details, but fretting over who it will be... I dunno.

I am not sold they should be doing anything, but you see a game like they played against NYR and you do think to yourself that they could do some damage, so maybe it is worth it.

Options seem very limited from a cap perspective. Parayko seems like the right type of player. If they can make the cap work I think I'd be okay with it. Of course I will not be saying that after a 1st or 2nd round loss.

Well the leafs are at that cross road so I say go ahead but not worth an overpayment.
