If you think Matthews is struggling just because he isn't scoring, this is exactly why your eyes might be deceiving you. The huge increase in defensive efficiency isn't easy.

This isn't a player that is easy to play against no matter how much you want to lie to yourself. The negativity sometimes is a little much.

Lmao what a load of crap.

How can you watch this game and not see Matthews beasting all over the puck in all zones.

And then compare him to a floater like Pastrnak who lives off his linemates? Hilarious. Go read a Boston thread and see what pastrnak is really is.

You are very bad at watching hockey.
But tell us what you really think

I thought Matty played well but really was just snake bit until OT. Marner had another super game, William continues to shine, Soup is going to cost us. I'd still offer him a max deal to try and get the AAV down low but as time goes by his payday will be bigger and bigger. Puck seemed to be bouncing all over the place, but bounced well for Calgary on their goal. sitting on it's edge like that it was no problem to get over Soup's pad.

That defence.

One of the big differences there is that they dont shy Matthews away from playing against other top lines (as he usually dominates them) and last year he was up against the top heavy North division big lines (The North probably had the best top lines out of any division last year).

Matthews is just rolling as usual and still adjusting to not having Marner on his wing right now IMO.

This is the exact type of game that Fred would have lost for us.

In fact, he did lose a near identical game for Carolina just tonight.
Won his share of games like this this season as well to be fair..
Cant help but agree this is one he would have blew for us tho.. he sucks at goalie duels

I think it has more to do with his conditioning and timing more than anything.
I think a lot of people just assume he missed camp and few games, but in reality, he missed the month before camp due to his surgery and that month is usually where athletes get back to shape and not embarrass themselves come camp.

So the Flames board is apparently upset that they drafted Valimaki instead of Liljegren
It took a few years, but finally those type of comments are coming.

I don’t understand why people say AM is struggling to begin with.
It is Not like he is floating out there

cherry picking individual games to discuss goalies is hilariously bad form. Literally every goalie on earth has had individual great games and bad games.

if you want to talk about losing games like this, just see playoffs vs mtl games 1/6/7.

I read through their GDT and there was 2 posters who commented on Liljegren. I don’t get how that’s the flames board

I like Lilegjren but unless I missed some other thread let’s not exaggerate here.

Such a satisfying win after I thought we really dominated play for most of the game and it was only close because of their backup goalie.

Very solid game from Toronto, these are the types of games they need to learn to play in the playoffs. 34 looked off again in the ozone but game breaking talent like his always finds a way to score. In saying that, he has been great in the D zone.

Willy and Campbell continue to bring it every night.
