One day when I've met my goals in life I'd like to hear about David Quinn again at a party and shake my head at how bad a coach he was.

Kinda like when I was in my early 20s and would talk about Tom Webster or Ron Low at parties.

Until then we need to get over talking about Quinn as much as the team needs to get over the Quinn PTSD.
I’m thinking these were pretty bad parties ;)

Two games this season. One against Washington which isn't a shitty team and Dallas that was just on Stanley Cup finals and isn't a shitty team either.

- Kakko and Laf bust
- People hate this team
- Fire Gallant?
- We are gonna be last and select Wright from next draft

Shees chill. Tampa has lost games, Vegas has lost games, Montreal lost to Buffalos full AHL team. This is how it is when season starts. Give this team some time.

Honestly shocked at the negativity in this thread. I was in the Garden tonight and the last 40 minutes felt like a playoff atmosphere. All 4 lines were playing “Vegas” hockey and they dominated Dallas. This game could’ve easily been 5-2 if not for 2 posts and Strome being allergic to goals. The bad habits (late period goals against, deferring on the PP) will take a bit to break but I’m liking what I’m seeing

I loved the 2nd period. Utter domination.

But let's not kid ourselves. The first period could've easily been 6-2 the other way. Pavelski must have missed like 4-5 grade A chances.

Way too many oddman rushes.

If he went after him it was a super easy pass to the trailer for a breakaway.

He tried to play the pass and the shot...he took away the pass but not the shot

When defending a 2 on 1...which is what that was..you take the pass and give the goalie the shooter...that's effectively what he did.

He literally let him skate in 1 on 1. At the very least he could have forced him on the outside.

Was funny to read Dallas GDT and how impressed people were with Fox. I think this is season where people will finally wake up and see why he is one of the best D in NHL.

I'm watching the Kings game right now and the goal LA just scored is the type of goal this roster will never be able to produce. Iafallo backchecked like a madman and just cleanly sticklifted Marchessault and took the puck then took a hit and chipped the puck to Kempe and Kempe fed Kopitar for a goal on a two on one. There's not one forward on this roster with the exception of maybe Kakko who cares enough about defense or transition play to empty the gas tank on a backcheck and strip the puck off an opposing player.
Some Kings fan on the trade board was trying to trade us Iafallo for Kravtsov.

So for all you blaming Trouba on the goal go watch it again- the Stars have a 2-1 and the other player skating down the middle is wide open. Trouba is trying to defend both players by staying in the middle. It’s not a lack of effort- he’s doing what he thinks he should do.

More importantly, it is extremely clear to me that Gallant has these guys buying into what he wants from them and is an exceptionally better coach than we had in Quinn. Last night as Laf went into MIA mode he was quickly demoted to the third line and, not likely coincidently, the team then went on the major 2 goal push after which Laf was brought right back up with his line. No benching, no “accountability nonsense” after the game- just a simple, “you are not doing what we want so I’ll find someone who is right now but it’s over as soon as you turn it around.” Fantastic job by Gallant last night to get this team even a point.

As in all sports your top players need to be just that….Mika and Bread will be there soon…In between periods walking through glass corridor Artemi was visibly frustrated…..his overall timing etc is off a bit……….but it’s coming

Weren't we horrendous under Quinn to start? ( or was that year2? ) We looked good game1 then there was a 'bye week'. Everything fell apart after that and we got red hot when Shesty got called up.

This team will become white hot in 15-20 games

Aside from Fox, Miller and Trouba were real bright spots last night. We need them to be effective if we're gonna go anywhere this year and they were. It really seemed like they switched roles. Trouba was jumping into the play all game like he did in Winnipeg and Miller was keeping it simple holding down the fort. Hope that is a trend that persists.

Nils had the Jitters, but got better and actually closed a few gaps being physical. He even closed the door on Benn once. Hope he stays in for the Habs.

Not impressed with Nemeth so far.

Jones Lundkvist is too smurfy.

KAM Fox
Jones Trouba
Lindgren Lundkvist

?

Lunkdvist looks smaller than Jones out there. Does seem like he's improving a little every game though. We desperately need offense from our bottom 4 D and he's the only one that really beings any kind of creativity there.

To me, him and Jones are as interchangeable as it gets. Which means one of them probably won't be here by the end of the year.

As a whole, it does seem like the team is doing (or at least trying to do) the right things to win games. Most of the players are still noticeably rusty though and haven't developed any chemistry with each other yet. Gallant doesn't micromanage as much as Quinn though so hopefully they will come together quicker this season.

Biggest disappointment for me so far is Laf, sadly. I just don't see any improvements from last season and my expectations for him this year are looking a little bloated right now. The skill is there but he's still lacking any kind of explosiveness and is too easily neutralized. I think he needs to trim down quite a bit

Great spot with Laf. I noticed this as well but forgot to mention it.

He fully deserved a demotion, but it wasn’t more than a slap on the wrist. And he made a few good plays when he got put back on the line. He still wasn’t great, but give him the time to work things out.

Laf's skating and strength have clearly improved to me. I think the points will come. It looks like he is going out of his way to be more physical which is taking him a bit out of position to put up point.

Also, Mika has no points either.

The issue is KAM doesn't belong on the 2nd pairing, let alone the 1st pairing. I don't even think he belongs on the NHL roster right now. He needs to be in the AHL.

Lindgren Fox
Jones Trouba
Nemeth Lundkvist/Schneider

is what I would like to see.

I've calmed down from last night. From what I saw, or maybe how I felt, the Capitals game and the first period tonight were still breaking off the rust and what not. The team really played well the rest of the game. I don't think this team will be terrible, they should be pretty good, but as always, we are in a tough division so we will see.

With that being said, some things I am thinking about players:

Laf is slow, or at least, not playing with any intensity. I'm sorry kid, talent alone will work in the shitty Q, but not in the NHL. He needs to be better, and with that, I would move him down to the third line. Laf-Chytil-Goodrow

Kakko looks the best he ever has to this point. The only person on PP2 that if they get it they don't lose it immediately or make a stupid play. He holds it and sets up properly. Also, has NHL speed now. With that said, the puck needs to start going in. Keep him with Panarin and Strome or move him on the right of Kreider and Z. He might actually fit on that line a little better. A more direct Buch replacement.

With that, put Blais with Panarin and Strome. He is a bigger, more physical, but still skilled Fast.

4th line is good, honestly. They know their role and they attack the defenders deep.

Trouba has been the best d-man, and maybe the best player on the team, the first 2 games. Miller had a rough Caps game, but he was much improved against Dallas. I think that unit will be fine, as well.

Lindgren and Fox are Lindgren and Fox. I see nothing to worry about.

Nemeth is good. Solid, smart, calm. Think, Kevin Klein.

Lundqvist was, not very impressive. Seems weak, almost. But, its first game. I honestly like Tinordi's game, and he has, like most vets, gotten better each game. I, personally, thought Jones was the better player between Lundqvist and Jones, but handedness I guess. Eh.

Also, trade Georgiev. He has gotten worse every year. He either needs to be the starter somewhere, or just needs a fresh place. And package Hajek with him. Would Rask be interested? Haha
