Great spot with Laf. I noticed this as well but forgot to mention it.

He fully deserved a demotion, but it wasn’t more than a slap on the wrist. And he made a few good plays when he got put back on the line. He still wasn’t great, but give him the time to work things out.

Thanks- and contrast that with the way Quinn would have handled this by basically benching Laf and juggling all th eother lines to " send him a message" and you can already see how Gallant is such a better and more responsible coach.

One thing after 2 games, I'd like to see Chytil play with some guys who have some offensive talent.

Eventually I agree, although with the way he plays I like him with a couple of guys who can retrieve pucks and create a little space for him. I think he and Goodrow together have actually played very well.

I've calmed down from last night. From what I saw, or maybe how I felt, the Capitals game and the first period tonight were still breaking off the rust and what not. The team really played well the rest of the game. I don't think this team will be terrible, they should be pretty good, but as always, we are in a tough division so we will see.

With that being said, some things I am thinking about players:

Laf is slow, or at least, not playing with any intensity. I'm sorry kid, talent alone will work in the shitty Q, but not in the NHL. He needs to be better, and with that, I would move him down to the third line. Laf-Chytil-Goodrow

Kakko looks the best he ever has to this point. The only person on PP2 that if they get it they don't lose it immediately or make a stupid play. He holds it and sets up properly. Also, has NHL speed now. With that said, the puck needs to start going in. Keep him with Panarin and Strome or move him on the right of Kreider and Z. He might actually fit on that line a little better. A more direct Buch replacement.

With that, put Blais with Panarin and Strome. He is a bigger, more physical, but still skilled Fast.

4th line is good, honestly. They know their role and they attack the defenders deep.

Trouba has been the best d-man, and maybe the best player on the team, the first 2 games. Miller had a rough Caps game, but he was much improved against Dallas. I think that unit will be fine, as well.

Lindgren and Fox are Lindgren and Fox. I see nothing to worry about.

Nemeth is good. Solid, smart, calm. Think, Kevin Klein.

Lundqvist was, not very impressive. Seems weak, almost. But, its first game. I honestly like Tinordi's game, and he has, like most vets, gotten better each game. I, personally, thought Jones was the better player between Lundqvist and Jones, but handedness I guess. Eh.

Also, trade Georgiev. He has gotten worse every year. He either needs to be the starter somewhere, or just needs a fresh place. And package Hajek with him. Would Rask be interested? Haha

I agree with most of this, well said. Not sure about Tinordi yet, but I can live with him as 7D.

Worth noting, in the 1st intermission it was mentioned that the Rangers weren't getting pucks behind the D and cycling, which is what the coach is trying to coach into them 60 minutes a night. They started doing that in the 2nd and looked impressive and dangerous. If they can buy into that style for 3 periods every night, the wins will come.

Laf's skating and strength have clearly improved to me. I think the points will come. It looks like he is going out of his way to be more physical which is taking him a bit out of position to put up point.

Also, Mika has no points either.

Mika got a point, unless they took it away.

Thought the 1st period was very blah. They looked like a team that was playing back-to-back nights, traveling late the night before. If it wasn’t for a bad play by Lundkvist and a soft goal given up by Igor they escape that period unscathed.

By mid-2nd period they looked like they found their legs and turned the game around. They deserved to win the game.

They need to tighten up their defensive game, especially the transitional play. Forwards need to work back harder and pick up assignments. They surrendered too many high danger opportunities to Dallas. Igor made a lot of key stops. Which is why I won’t kill him for the 1st and 3rd goals.

PK also needs to be better. I am still on the fence about Kakko on the PK. I know he is a good defensive forward but he just doesn’t seem quick enough in his reactions as he has to turn a lot and have his stick in proper lanes to clog them. Maybe that improves with time. I don’t think Hunt is an option. Not sure about Blais when he is healthy. Gauthier no.

But overall I think this team will be fine. Lundkvist will get better and better. They will have more wins than losses. Panarin and Zib will be better and more impactful.

Did Quinn bench Laf, last year? I don't remember.

The beat writers go into the presser with their articles 95% done:

“Were you enthusiastic about the team coming back down 2-0 after last night’s collapse?”

“Was the emotion of the pregame a factor in the slow start?”

“What stands out to you about Adam Fox so far?”
I can't listen to the interviews at all anymore, it's too cringe

Imo Nils was far better than Tinordi. Tinordi panics with the puck and it causes problems more often than not. Nils is calm and generally makes good puck decisions

He’s better than Tinordi but he certainly didn’t look calm to me, he looked really shaky and kept fumbling passes he received as if there were a hole in his stick blade lol, puck kept rolling under his stick

First period was terrible. But the 2nd/3rd were very good. They dominated the 2nd especially - had over 80% of the shots and chances.

Dumb play by Panarin cost them in OT. But if they're able to fire on that level most of the season, they'll win games like that.
