Sounds like Andersen did the right thing, then. Compared to the start of the season, he looks fully healthy and rejuvenated. Since his return, he has made both Pyotr and Anti look very second rate. I'm glad he took the time he needed to get fully healthy.....(don't you do it universe!!!)....and didn't rush back too soon to reinjure himself.
I agree. I can’t help but feel Max rushed it and paid pretty dearly, and I wonder what role the team played. You can say “well….Anderson….” but not only did that situation appear player driven it seemed that the team might not have agreed completely, though of course they do now.

Players want to play as soon as they think they can, and when it comes to the playoffs, even when they think they can't. It's natural. If the doctors told Patches he was healed and he felt he was healed, then he was going to play.

Re: Andersen, I watched the goalie coaches interview last night. He said they told Andersen to take however long he felt he needed to make sure he was mentally and physically right and commented that he did it right. Not sure why we think the team rushed Patches but let the most important position on the roster take all the time he needs.

I'm not sure he's old enough to qualify for some of the games played bonuses (@Lempo may have more info here) but a one year show me deal I can 100% see. And we're the kind of team that lives to give those out.
Actually he's preeeetty close but misses the option by a couple of months for the next season:

Born November 20, 1988 (age 34)

Performance Bonuses shall be allowable under this Agreement only for:

(ii) Players aged 35 or older as of June 30 prior to the League Year in which the SPC is to be effective, who have signed a one-year SPC for that League Year; and

Players want to play. I'm sure the team wanted him back as soon as he was comfortable, and I'm sure he wanted to be back as soon as humanly possible.

From what I'm reading, once the Achilles is substantially healed, it's a matter of degrees of risk. Come back sooner, risk of re-rupture is slightly higher, but the chance of re-rupture is always there, forever. He could have come back two months from now and had the same result.

That's terrible for Max. I wish him the best and he seems like the type of guy that could make it back to the league eventually but I'm sure the odds are stacked at this point. Just a terrible situation.

You're up Don. Time to go shopping.

The coming back early thing, the NHL has to be the worst in terms of how long players are truly out. There's never a definitive answer, ever. And honestly some of that is the players themselves, they'll play injured and pretend all is well.

Max was expected to be out til, early February? And came back a month earlier than first thought? And he seemed to be ready to go, as if he himself felt ready.

Unfortunately the bug came back.

I seem to recall that he had a different type of surgery, one that had a quicker recovery time. If so, the next question is about how that compares with respect to the chance of re-injury.

Regardless, put me in the camp that doubts the re-injury was due to Max coming back "too soon".

It's just kinda crazy, I thought he was just recovering from some nagging injuries when we traded for him. Then the Achilles thing happened, and happened again last night. As someone who is literally the same age as Max, I feel my body breaking down everyday as well. These injuries we could have healed from in our mid 20s just don't heal. But I don't have hopes of winning a Stanley Cup like Max did so it's so much worse for him.

Did the NHL remove the bonus options for players returning from long term injury? I’m confident Pacioretty qualifies for a contract with performance bonuses under that rule but I’m unsure if the rule still exists.

Good thinking. I whirled past that sub-section and went only by his age. The rule is still there and he would qualify, if he signs a one-year SPC for 2023-24.

(iii) Players who are "400-plus game Players" for pension purposes, and who: (i) in the last year of their most recent SPC, spent 100 days or more on the Injured Reserve List; and (ii) have signed a one-year SPC for the current or upcoming League Year

So maybe next year. If..... Idk I mean sure a 1 year prove it if he can heal but - what are the odds of that even happening? Isn't two back to back pretty much the end?
