Lots of trade options available there’s no doubt they will make a move to fill the void left by pacioretty. They need another scorer.. Tarasenko, Horvat, Meier
There also is a sudden influx of LTIR space if Pacioretty is done for the season.

No more retention talk, no more sending back NHL players to make cap work. They can go out and acquire almost anyone with $10.1M in LTIR space.

Honestly, I'm not sure I'd throw the farm at a temporary piece.

If this happened this easily, then it was bound to happen at some point before or during the playoffs.

I don't want to see us go out and blow money just to take a wild swing. We have a lot more problems than one scoring forward rental will fix.

We aren't going to win the east with this pp. Being on top of your division is one thing. 7 games against Boston, TB, etc is another. Tampa has remained relevant for a long time. So can we.

Again: the team was undefeated in December without him. Yes, he can't be replaced, but the games don't stop and they're still a playoff team. It sucks, but every team deals with injuries. Someone needs to step up, and that's it.
This. While losing Patches will be a big blow they really only lost potential. His goals weren't one time PP snipes they were good bounce goals. Still need to go out and find a new replacement though.

And yeah, just absolutely crushing for him. Go through all that to work your way back and maybe just have it happen again on such an innocuous play.

I'd go big game hunting for Horvat. But his price probably just went up unless we have been offering the best package all along, and even then his price just went up with them knowing about Pacioretty.

Was it his right achilles that he injured before? I'm wondering if he re-injured it or popped the other one. Seems like that could make a difference in his long term prognosis of playing again.

I don't want us blowing too many valuable long-term resources, but a late 1st rounder for a pricey one-year rental might make sense. If LTIR works how people are saying, the cash will be the least of the problems.

Honestly this is one of the few times I'll be on board with our office being frustratingly frugal.

They have a history of doing the opposite of overpaying. I'd be okay with doing nothing over something dumb. We need a longer term 2c and pp fixes.

Prior to tonight I was mainly eyeing a 3rd pair piece.

But now, tough. I’m not sold on the cup prospects enough to “sell the farm,” yet we’ve got to realize the current team window is closing. Lots of big deals coming up..

I can’t imagine what VAN’s ask is for Horvat, but I’m only interested if there’s a new deal with term

If they can find an expiring UFA deal to take on, it doesn't matter.

Dundon has never worried about spending dead money. The team is very focused on getting the most out of every potential dollar. If they *don't* bring someone in with the LTIR $$$ to replace Patches, that's precisely the kind of "wasting dead money" move that Dundon would never make.

Tarasenko could make sense they’ve been rumoured to talk about him before but St Louis may not sell

There’s no way Dundon will let 10 million sit there and be wasted when this team is second in the league. There’s probably at least 2 moves coming eventually forward and defenceman

I’m a little curious about all this. Duclair had the same injury and seems to be on a slower timeline. We were told February and Max was back in January.

Are there not some questions to be answered here? This is likely a career changer, possible ender.
Maybe, but I think it eventually comes down to the player.

Canes don't seem to mind letting a guy take the time to really heal, as we've seen with Freddy. By all accounts, Max pushed himself really hard to get back sooner and maybe too soon? Who knows, but I'm sure there will be questions.

In patches last interview he mentioned Duclair having a set back during recovery (if I remember correctly)

Just checking in to ask if Pepperidge Farm remembers when I was like “rupturing an achilles is a BFD and counting on him to waltz back in here and save the day is not a good plan” and was told something to the effect of “those injuries are fully recoverable! Not a problem” or words to that effect

Just when your posts couldn’t get more idiotic, you let another one fly.

I told you so is really cool when a dude’s career is on the line and no one has ever come back from an achilles injury before.
