I'm real late to the party but my prediction/wish came through and I couldn't be happier.

It was THE move Ray had the make with the abundance of cap space we had, the need for a legit top pairing dman and the surplus of picks we acquired with past trades. To me, we hit that one out of the park and it's not even debatable.

We also add a legit All-Star to prove to Taylor Hall that we are heading in the right direction.

Again, great move by Shero!!!

I remember seeing Subban in a night club on a Sunday night back when he was with the Habs. He was drunk af, and I was wondering if the Habs had the day off the next day.

I wake up the next day, turn my tv on, and I see him practicing with the team lol

I think we all used to be able to do that in our early 20s. :(

I doubt PK is still doing that today haha.

I knew it. Party boys Hall and Subban are going to ruin our precious Nico and Jack with their debauchery.:sarcasm:
Funny enough they kinda crap on the new guys because they never go out and come back with "stories." They all stay in and play Fortnite. So I think we are safe.

Is there anyone actually unhappy with this?
I'm sure there's one or two people out there (maybe not on this forum) that are a bit unhappy that we lost ''Solid, defensive defenseman Steve Santini'', if not annoyed that we sent Santini back to Nashville instead of Severson.

If Subban isn't still considered a #1 defenseman in the NHL, then the list of guys who are truly a ''#1 defenseman'' is even shorter than many believe it is in the first place.

Unhappy? Not at all.

Honestly though, I am really disappointed about Davies. I was really looking forward to watching him go through the process...I was so excited for him that I refused to even make a comment about him so not to jinx him :)

But when you you can get a player like Subban for so little you do it...That said I do wonder how this is all going to work. I don't really think it was the most pressing need.

I don't really think it was the most pressing need.

I completely, but respectfully, disagree.

Our most pressing need, in my eyes, is (was?) an elite defenseman. We are set for centers and left wings. Right wing could use a little depth work. Goaltending is solid. But we had no #1 guy on the blueline - honestly, no #2 guy either (I can see the debate for Vatanen or Severson there).

We all hope (And to be honest, I expect) Ty Smith will eventually be a guy like that. But we just added a proven one.

And the bonus to that is that he pushes our current defensemen down a spot or two, to more manageable assignments and minutes.

I would've preferred a lefty, but I'm not arguing.

You don't think upgrading our defense was our most pressing need?

I know it wasn't the center position since we have Hischier, Hughes and Zajac. It probably wasn't on left wing with Hall, Bratt/Zacha or the right wing with Palmieri, Bratt/Zacha. As for our goaltenders, we have Schneider who wasn't going anywhere and Blackwood who is looking to make a name for himself.

So my question is this... what was/is our pressing need?

I guess the question is how "Elite" is Subban right now?

You realize Severson and Subban have pretty close to the same stats at even strength over the last two years?

Severson GP 158 - 17 Goals - 29 assist
Subban GP 145 - 17 Goals - 36 assist

I don't want to make this a "why Subban isn't that good" debate, because that isn't my intent at all. I just think with Severson and Vatanen the right side of our defense wasn't an issue. EDIT: And...I think the issues with Defense STILL exist even after adding Subban....Because they are on the left side.

Double EDIT: And it's not just a left/right side issue: It is the style of players on each side that absolutely DO NOT compliment each other and even make the situation worse.

Vatanen playing 50 games last year and not playing particularly well when he did play was an issue.

Subban was injured last year and still managed to rack up the same # of pts as Severson over the past two years, so that's not really relevant IMO. Secondly, the Preds definitely have a better better blueline and they still went after Subban, so adding talent should never be a negative... especially when the talent your adding automatically becomes your #1 guy. And finally, the priced paid was a joke and even if we had Doughty and Karlsson on the right side, for that price, you pull the trigger any day of the week and twice on sundays.
