Vat or Severson is going to have to switch over at some point with the roster as is. PK would be just as likely a time to do it as any.
Of Vat's 94 minutes of PK time last year, he played 23-24ish minutes with another righty, 16 with Sev's, 7 with Lovejoy. I'm thinking it was Vat's and not those other guys who was on their off hand.

So if someone on the right were to pick up some minutes on the left to give Greene a breather, I'm thinking it will be Vat's.

Again, the organization knows they need to add a larger top 4 dman on the left side.

I don't see Vats and Butcher both being here next season (2020). One of them is getting moved at some point (or just letting Vats walk, but that's less likely).
The need on left is still a top pair guy. Do I think they will add a mid pairing guy in hopes of filling that? No I think they will groom Smith and hope he is ready sooner then later to take over.

If Smith can become a guy you can trust out there in all situations, then I think you can run something like Butcher Mueller(or take your pick from the draftees) behind him.

Now they do have pieces to go out and trade for a top pair lefty. But I'm not sure if there is a guy available. We heard Subban was available, we heard Trouba was available. We hear about Brodin, but I feel he is that mid pairing guy that I spoke of above, I just don't think they will look to add that type of player.

Isn't the contract the reason why he was available? Because of that I figured we were in a pretty good position to get him fairly cheap. Didn't think this cheap though.

Poile pretty much admitted it's cap, need on forward, and Fabbro looking top four ready.

He likely tried to move Turris and nobody would take his whole cap back without the Preds giving up a first with it similar to what Toronto did with Marleau. So instead he's biting the bullet, keeping Turris and hoping he rebounds, and freeing up cap to chase a top six centre.

It's likely Poile had better offers on the table, lots saying Toronto had a much better offer, but Leafs wanted the Predators to keep $3M. Shero got this because of the cap availability.

Add into that that Subban's play did slip this past season, whether that is injury or otherwise, but he is 30, so it makes sense from a lot of angles. A team like Nashville should be looking to turn the fields over a little bit, stay competitive, but get younger, avoid the trap of being an aging team.

We on the other hand are in a much different situation, being such a young team with a ton of cap space, a 30 year old player with a big contract(though the fact that it is only for 3 more years is very nice from our perspective) who maybe has slipped a bit, but is still a very good player, makes a ton of sense.

I guarantee there would be zero character assassination hit pieces about PK being a cancer if he was traded to TO.

Apparently of all the teams in the mix we were the only ones willing and able to absorb the entire contract.

Which is exactly what I speculated here as my educated guess yesterday.

Shero had Nashville by the ballz, he didnt squeeze quite tight enough IMO.

Whatever, I'm over it.

If he's healthy this will be absolutely huge for NJ. Great trade for you guys. This guy's a monster and plays his best when it matters.

The only concern I might have is that his skating looked off this year. He had back problems and it affected him. Apart from that though this guy is an absolute money player. You will love this guy.

Subban at 60% is better than anything we had last year. I'll take that lol

Everything has a price. Nashville didn't have to move Subban. It was prudent for them to do it now, but they could've just kept him.

People acting like Subban is cooked is wild. Yeah he’s not a top 5 dman right now but considering he was a Norris finalist 2 years ago and had a injury last year you’d think he’s Wade f***ing Redden.

Yeah he’s not the old Subban but Jeeez he’s still top pair D easily and we gave up scraps.

This is gonna sound really bad to a lot of people, but a Brooks Orpik might be a nice add to this team right now.

Aside from the draft and big trade, the Shero laughing gif and "f*** that shit" meme are the cherry on top

If he's healthy, he's a top five blueliner. He's really good and thrives on pressure. He plays his best when it matters. Two years removed from a Norris nom. Injuries slowed him this year and that will really determine how much NJ has won on this trade. But NJ definitely won big time.

Subban is going to have a monster season he’s going to have a lot to prove and he’s the type of person I think that will raise to the challenge. I think the connection to Newark will be a huge factor in this too with the type of charity work he does.

No it wouldn’t. Most of those type of players suck. We just got rid of one for Subban.

And the real Orpik is 39 years old and shouldn’t be near this team or any NHL team.
