Don't forget, Subban would be the best Dman Greene has maybe ever played with.
Even at his age, he may be able to manage top pairing minutes with Subban, at least for half the year while Smith gets his feet under him.
This is a very fair point I hadn't considered.

I love this, particularly how Shero responds to the dumb as f*** question about PK's personality. He's goddamn right that if this was the NBA Subban would be considered one of the choirboys.

I like his enthusiasm too Shero.

A quick shout-out to @billingtons ghost and @longislanddevil and all the guys who backed me up when people on the Devils threads wanted to give up significantly more than it took to acquire PK Subban to trade for the #4D on the Minnesota Wild.
Thanks for the props. It's easy to agree with you when you eloquently expressed exactly my thoughts on the matter. I'll also back you up on the underestimation of the need for physical defenseman to balance the blue line. I think Shero and scouting backed you up as well.

Exactly, tg. Somehow you still are our best analyst.

I really thought subban was a pipedream, and that trouba was our best bet.

The physicality, the leadership, the skills, the charisma, the steadying influence on our blueline, the ability to be a mentor for high-talent players.

It's really a perfect fit. More so than on any trade I can think of in devil's history since broten.

I mentioned that before. He is absolutely a guy I think is great to be around our younger D as a mentor. Smith is going to learn a lot.

Yeah, that article pretty much sums it all up. This was a home run trade on so many levels.

PK's influence and star transcends the NHL. And you had both he and the 1st overall pick in the draft - both with magnetic personalities - in the same weekend, on camera speaking about how excited they are to be coming to the Devils. Both visibly so.

This weekend brought an excitement level and energy that is palpable. It would have anyway with drafting Jack, but this trade for Subban is just huge.

This type of thing a lot of times has a magnetic quality about it. It's the case in all sports. Other players want to be part of these kind of situations. They want to join in on the fun. We'll see what July 1 brings.

I think Carrick is already gone...

There is room for only one of Carrick or Mueller...and Carrick needs to go.

I think the starting left side in order is Greene, Smith and Butcher.

We are going to be relying pretty heavily on Smith as a rookie it seems...me personally, I think there should be a back up plan in place in case Smith can't handle that load in his rookie season which is a very real possibility. So I think that means Mueller is the man and the 7th and Carrick is gone.
Mueller was pretty good on the PK from what I remember too. It wouldn't surprise me to see Vatanen traded now with one year left and a bit of an overload on the right side.

Ironic that he was traded for Henrique. A Henrique type player might be useful now on the RW. Guess that lends itself more to the fact you shouldn't draft for need.

Agreed, on all accounts. I can't remember the last time there was this much hype surrounding the Devils, or if there ever even has been.

Also, I don't think it can be overstated how important it will be for the Devils to have a black superstar playing in Newark. The game has already grown leaps and bounds since we moved there, having PK as one of the faces of the franchise will only help it grow exponentially.

One minor thing about Davies - I really like him, and think he could've fit in just fine, but that many ELCs and low-cost contracts on a team and it's hard to even get over the cap floor when you don't have a big salary on the team. The marginal value of adding another cheap defenseman is almost nil.

PK's contract being up in 3 years is really perfect. The Devils don't have to take a big risk with a UFA who was unlikely to come here anyway - the 2 2nds, it's a shame to lose them, and I think Davies has a good shot to be an NHLer, but also moving Santini in this trade is a big win - he's just not any good and I'm glad we don't have to see him out there anymore. Wish the best for him in Nashville.

Ray Shero with extra draft picks is a dangerous man.

And yes, I know it was our own 2nd rounder, but having extra picks does help him be more active.
