Just a couple things about Par Lindholm.

He's not gonna hurt you. Typical Finn in that he has pretty solid fundamentals but he has shown no scoring sense at all.
He's played mostly left wing with the Goat on the 4th line. Has had some reps at C and even a bit of 3LW. He also PK's.
The thing that will stand out for you is how hard he works. So much so that he's a Babs type player and some suspect this deal was to take away one of Bab's toys.

Anyway, enjoy your player. No take backs.
Almost guaranteed that Petan will not be one of Bab's toys. He is the #1 candidate to soon find himself in the PB. Not very strong on the boards, never plays with any urgency but what will bury him with Babs is when he is playing on the 4th line and instead of dumping it in and chasing he stops up in the neutral zone and tries to saucer a pass between 2 defenders. Even if it works once in a while it drives old school coaches crazy.

Best of luck, Lee! I'm sure the chapter of this book has been closed on this board.

I'm sure Chevy would rather have a draft pick also rather than a guy going back to Sweden in 6 weeks. That should tell you something.
Yup. Couldn't even squeeze out a 7th round pick for him. But good on Chevy to give Petan another lease on his NHL career.

And supposedly he works hard and kills penalties. Rather have that sitting in the pb in case we need him.

Nic has found the one coach in the NHL who will hate him more than Maurice hah

Sadly I think you're right. :( Outside of massive injuries to the lineup, the best Petan can hope for is a regular 4th line spot with the Leafs right now and even that is in question if Babcock chooses not to play him. The Leafs resigned Dman Justin Holl before the season began and he's played all of two games the entire year so far and of course we had Leivo sit forever until he was finally traded to the Nucks.

Perhaps it would've been better if he had been traded to the Sens, Oilers or some other bottom feeder team that would have a better chance at giving him some decent minutes and a legit opportunity to prove himself because I don't think he'll get that with the Leafs this year.

Yeah we have experience with Finns that have no scoring sense - one of our scrubs just went 15 (!) games without a goal :amazed:

Ya, I have a hard time not seeing him be Leivo'd.

I haven’t followed closely, is he heading back after this season? I like him as a fourth liner and wondered if we couldn’t keep him next year on the cheap to replace Tanev as I feel he’s going to cost too much in the summer.

You have to choose a guy who you have in your pressbox. You could have a younger one who has shown flashes of brilliance whenever he has gotten the chance to play with talent, or you could have an older one who has shown nothing.

It requires some dumb management to end up with the latter.

I like him as a fourth line player. I like Petan too but I’m glad he gets a fresh start.

some leaf fan said that on main boards. have not heard a thing. they almost all say that he works hard kills penalties but cant stand him because he cant score. sound like a perfect press box guy at the very least.

I think this was done as a favour to Petan and to potentially grease the wheels with KO more than choosing which player will eat popcorn in the pressbox.

I've always liked Petan: I hope he gets a chance in the Leafs system, but that remains to be seen.

Lindholm probably fits the 4th line role better than Petan, particularly in playoffs.

Petan is a soft playmaker who needs to be paired with players above his ability, and to be given minutes, in order to be effective. Otherwise he is essentially a net negative.

Lindholm is a solid, hard-working vet who understands his role as a guy playing low minutes and killing penalties. He has no ambitions beyond being that kind of a guy, and is content in his role. His game fits what you would expect from a 4th line guy, taking away PK duties and such which are taxing on your top guys.

4th line is likely to be the Lowry line from now on, and Petan just won't fit their game. And he will not be given an opportunity as a top six guy, as those spots are pretty much clinched by players far above his talent level.

Petan's best chance to flourish, is in a team that's wide open on top, requiring a playmaker's abilities. But he will never be a good bottom six grinder.
