It am always amazed about the "small rink" narrative...if by small you mean low ceiling, steeper seating, and approximately 3200 capacity, yea it is a hometown advantage...but the ice is regulation size unlike some other barns in the league
That was his point. Millpond has championed the Bayshore for years. Its a running gag....

We have been to a few games at the Bayshore. With the seating arrangement in a smaller barn you just seem to be closer to the action no matter where you sit. We always enjoy the games there. Even drove over in the fall from Oliphant for a couple of exhibition games just to get a hockey fix. I think the Attack GM was looking at bringing in a bigger more physical type of player looking at the last draft. Probably saw a weakness and is being proactive going into the next couple seasons. Attack fans seem to think this needed to happen I believe.

Yes and no. I think they can run a bit of a dangerous game going 'to big' and ignoring what brought the team to the dance so to speak, the high skill all over, but drafting has not been a problem for this team in the last 4/5 years, Id argue they have been quite good vs the 4/5 years previous, so they have earned a bit of faith on that end.

Itll be interesting to see if they make any mores in the upcoming few weeks. I would think that adding a D in the Import Draft is a lock, would love to see them add another seasoned D after that, perhaps with one of the 05 or 06s.

I'll add my thoughts to the draft talk. I think the team has added size with the recent draft without compromising the skill element. The team's top picks are all productive players so I don't think the concerns about being "too big" are warranted at this point in time. Size was a noticeable missing element on the roster at times last season and I think management has course corrected by having more of a balanced mix. I think if you look at the later picks in the draft they picked up high skill, smaller players, some with late birthdays, that are probably the right spot in the draft to grab that type as they won't impact your roster until later years. I think if all things are equal, size can be used as a tie breaker as it's typically an easier adjustment to the league.

Just want to preface by saying I know absolutely nothing and just adding my own observations and opinions on the import draft situation. Going through the import draft board and looking at the names listed, it skews heavily in the favor of forwards over defensemen for whatever that is worth. Adding in some comments about how DeGray works the import picks with relationships with agencies etc I would look towards recent successful picks out of Slovakia and Czechia and lean towards a player from those areas. Some notable names:

Slovakia
F (06)Ondrej Maruna 6'4" 198lbs
F (05)Frantisek Dej 6'4" 201lbs
F (05)Juraj Pekarcik 6'2" 183lbs
F (05)Michal Sobotka 6'5" 203lbs (November birthday)
D (06) Fabian Licko 6'2" 187lbs

Czechia
F (06)Adam Jecho 6'3" 187lbs
F (06)Vasyl Spilka 6'2" 174lbs
F (06)Martin Vaculik 6'0" 176lbs

I think it's logical that the team would look for a Dman with the import pick but if the talent pool is in favor of the forward group then I could see a scenario where you take a forward and use some of your depth to pursue a trade to help the back end. It's fascinating to see so many larger skilled players in the list as well as that would seemingly fit with the current desire to be bigger.

If you could somehow get a commitment from another large skilled player in Letourneau then you have roster flexibility to utilize in trade talks. With enough forward depth you could conceivably open the door to going with 1 OA forward and 2 OA Dmen.

With the new border rules I would hope that Langdon would consider coming as well. I thought he was impressive at camp last year, maybe not the most skilled right now but the compete/work ethic was high end, perfect 'new age' player.

He stood out to me as well at camp last year. The strength of the roster lies with the forward group so it will be harder to crack the team this year I would expect. He's a late birthday so it's tough to judge last season too much. Should be a fascinating camp this year as the level of competition will be high for very few seemingly available spots. I would think some candidates may have to force Dale to make room which is never a bad thing.

I would look to the East for D upgrades in trade. Smyth and Sirman from Ottawa would be intriguing, Sirman has an intriguing mix of depth scoring with some bite. Smith from Peterborough would add some grit to the back end and if they elect to go 2 OA D I still think Mayer would be an intriguing option to lengthen the depth of scoring on the back end beyond Sedley. Mathurin off North Bay would be a player of interest depending on what they choose to do next season.

Hearing Walters to sign a 2 year extension, I think you guys have a fan BBQ this weekend. Likely to be announced there

But how would you have inside information about a coaching extension if that was the case? Who in your fan circle would even suggest that?

Correct me if I'm wrong but when Walters was hired it was announced as a two year contract so in theory he would have to sign an extension to be back next year, no?

Could be that they announce the contract situation when the vacant assistant role is filled.

Im not sure what the contract situation is, but he is entering into his third year and I thought that he signed an extension last summer, which covered this year?

Trust me, players or players families don't get told inside info, unless you are a star on the team and they want to keep the player and the family happy.. I have a friend who always seems to have the inside scoop on this stuff. Let's see if he's right this time

I think people get confused when you suggest your just a fan and you present info that a parent or someone connected to the team would know is all.

I can't find anything on him extending. The only contract related info is from the initial media release when he was hired that I could track down. "Greg has signed to a two-year contract with the Attack that will take him through the 2022-2023 season." DeGray said he expects him back.

Interesting to note, he parted ways with the Generals after his contract expired and they couldn't come to terms on a new deal.

Obviously there's some time to work things out prior to next season but can't imagine you'd want things to drag on too much longer, especially if plans change and you need to search for a new bench boss.

Or they already signed an extension last year and just didn't bother to tell us? He was at the BBQ after a surgery, if he was not in the plans I highly doubt he wouldn't be there.

Haha maybe? Would seem odd for them to extend without any announcement but who knows. If he was at the BBQ then I would think things have been or are being taken care of.

I could be wrong but I think someone had mentioned awhile back that they thought there was a third year option on Walters contract. Could be they just picked up the option? I'm thinking everything will be sorted out when the vacant assistant coaching position is filled.

He was there, looks like he had a leg or hip surgery. If he was not part of the plan, I doubt he comes.

Regardless, no announcement of a contract extension and no real drama about it from what I could see.
