Any of us diehards with to much spare time that hung around the draft party on the Sat afternoon had little doubt about this news. Nico and his dad made the 7.5 hr drive on Sat to visit the Bayshore and see what we're about. Dale brought him into the senior centre were we were set up and introduced him. He went around the room and shook every persons hand thanking us for staying to meet him he is a quality well spoken young man. Yes they were weighing all there options which honestly is the smart thing to do. We have a highly regarded quality program here and you just have to let the process run it's course. Obviously for the Addy family they decided this was THE OPTION!!! I should add 6-7 of our players including Cedrick Guindon who they kinda know and Captain Colby from Switzerland and the U18's reached out to welcome Nico. Lets be honest that probably doesn't hurt the decision.Earlier in the day we also met Jake Crawford and Gabriel Smith and there families. I know I'm a biased homer but meeting all 3 and families and I'm very happy with the direction I feel this organization is heading.Sounds like a nice young man who wants to play here. Size will benefit the team.
Thanks for sharing. For a kid/family that were weighing their options, it sure didn't take long to decide to join the Attack. Obviously they liked what they saw in Owen Sound. It's great for the organization to get the early commitment as well. Like many Attack players, Nico seems mature well adjusted and intelligent .Sharing Greg Cowan's feature piece on Addy. It's a great article.
Top prospect focused on the future after signing with Attack
Nico Addy decided to give Owen Sound a chance, and now he’s glad he did.www.owensoundsuntimes.com
Degray said they had lots of skill guys but lacked size and grit.I like the way the Attack approached the draft. They seem to look for players that fit the close confines of the rink up there. They seemed to look for size and a phsyical type of player. Been to a few games in Owen Sound. Nice atmosphere. We have a trailer over by Wiarton so we were able to catch the Attack in exhibition in the fall a couple if times along with a couple of Ranger games in the past. Always a tough barn to get a win in for most teams. Good luck going forward.
Looking at NHL playoffs Millpond and you can see that size and physicality has not gone away. I think that element is important in the OHL particularly if they are a developmental league as they always say. Rangers have shied away from these hard nosed character type players and looked for finesse. Hasn't got them very far and the games lacking character are boring as hell for my liking.Degray said they had lots of skill guys but lacked size and grit.
I liked that they made a real effort to address that, taking big players with their first 6 picks .
Things will be a lot tougher for teams coming into the 85' x 200 ' confines of the Bayshore .
It am always amazed about the "small rink" narrative...if by small you mean low ceiling, steeper seating, and approximately 3200 capacity, yea it is a hometown advantage...but the ice is regulation size unlike some other barns in the leagueDegray said they had lots of skill guys but lacked size and grit.

Not so dramatic it appears. Not entirely sure what this would be but I have to imagine it could have something to do with the coaching staff. Walters was finishing a two year deal so perhaps an extension?

I I thought the feeling at the nd of the season was the coach was gone. The trap style play of his didn't work. Now you say you've drafted size, but in the trap game it doesn't matter how big or small the guys are. Sounds like a confusing situation up there? Not entirely sure what this would be but I have to imagine it could have something to do with the coaching staff. I think you need to have seen the team play in the first half of the season when the team was actually healthy to appreciate the potential of the group. Going 15-8 and playing an attack style vs falling back and trapping when the team was hit with massive injuries and lack of offensive depth.I I thought the feeling at the nd of the season was the coach was gone. Haha seems like such a click bait piece by Fred Wallace lol. This time of year the only significant thing seemed to be around the coaching staff but I was way off.Not so dramatic it appears.
I think if we look at the history of 'we have an announcement to make' in the OHL, its rarely anything hockey operations.
Definitely feels like a tale of two half seasons. The first half they looked like a legit contender and then really struggled for long stretches in the second half. Injuries played a part but some of the key offensive players disappeared for stretches closing out the season. This team ran really hot for awhile and then ice cold for awhile. If they could play with more consistency to avoid the extreme streakiness next season that would be a great start in my opinion. They have to figure out how to stop the losing streaks before they get into the 6-8 games range. The previous two seasons have had some overly long losing streaks that are certainly deflating.I think you need to have seen the team play in the first half of the season when the team was actually healthy to appreciate the potential of the group. maybe Shallow Lake where Crushers play. I was thinking of Hanover P&H centre as well.Haha seems like such a click bait piece by Fred Wallace lol. This time of year the only significant thing seemed to be around the coaching staff but I was way off.
Just out of curiosity as I'm not super familiar with the rinks of the surrounding area but what would be potential sites in the region? I would assume the Hanover and Port Elgin facilities would be viable options? Anything else make sense in the area?

Collingwood would be a great idea.Collingwood. Meaford.
I only saw a few games before Christmas but more over the last half, Hopefully it works out for you guys. Collingwood would make a lot of sense, especially with pre-season games typically including two against Barrie and two with North Bay. I'm sure those teams wouldn't mind the reduced travel.Collingwood would be a great idea.
Jordan Hill stepped away from the team. Coach Walters and Teakle are expected to return next season. They are currently searching for Hill's replacement.I did only see a few

They where not at the top of the conference in November by chance. I get the need to complain and revisit history, but lets be fair on both sides, they didn't get to within a few points of the top of the conference 20 games in by fluke. Everyone needs to be better, and probably will be better given they are a year older, but they have seen the success before.I did only see a few

I think will see the team use PH Centre in Hanover. Or Collingwood's Eddie Bush Arena there about the same distance there about 45 minutes to an hour tops from Owen Sound, the last time Owen Sound Attack used a temporary site they used The Plex in Port Elgin. All places are relatively close to travel from Owen Sound for the team.maybe Shallow Lake where Crushers play. I was thinking of Hanover P&H centre as well.
