Managed to catch the last 5 minutes of Attack Rap and to the hosts' credit they did ask Dale about the coaching situation. He said he's got no reason to think they won't all be back (or to that effect), which to me sounded pretty set in stone.

So while I hope to be proven wrong about the coaching staff, it's answers like that, after another mediocre season, that is shifting me pretty firmly towards the fire DeGray crowd (which is admittedly pretty small). But if next season is a similar disaster, it will be time.
YouTube link below if you care to watch the whole interview. Breaks down the OHL draft class in the first half.

Definitely a lot riding on next season in a year that they are expected to win. I think DeGray has earned the benefit of the doubt in Owen Sound but the pressure to get it right for this coming season is legit. Can't imagine the leash for the coach will be all that long if the start of the year doesn't go very well.

Dale told us at the draft party if the U.S drops the vax requirement at 12pm on whatever date he will be on the phone touching base with the Langdons at 12:05 so I wouldn't say it's played out just yet.
That's encouraging. I think he'll be hard pressed to make the team with so few openings and a pretty large pool of options with the recent draft crop but would love to see what he looks like in camp. November birthday so still a young player.

Not sure fans will find out about coaching decisions on Attack Rap....

You do get an opportunity to read the tea leaves so to speak though. I wouldn't expect announcements to be made on Attack Rap but definitely an opportunity to feel out some of the thinking on certain situations. Wouldn't say there were any major revelations on this episode but a few interesting nuggets. I wish they wouldn't have spent so much time on the U18 tournament in the second half as I feel they ran out of time with some other topics that would have been interesting to speak on but oh well.

In the first half I thought some talk on the Addy situation and the import pick to be interesting. In the second half the talk around the OA situation was intriguing with the revelation that Sedley is a lock as I think most would think Goure is expected to be one of the OAs.

Overall, I was mostly interested in hearing the thoughts on the draft from this past weekend.

That's the part that scares me. Don't think the team has ever fired a coach mid-season. Certainly not DeGray.

And if next season goes astray, that'll be two cycles with arguable OHL contender caliber teams (the 2018 team with no goalies was Mem Cup caliber except in net) that are frittered away because of a glaring weakness.

I was so wrong about Mark Reeds in 2010 when I felt the same way and wanted him fired, so I'm hoping I'm wrong. But the game and management of junior teams has changed a lot since 2010 and I'm not convinced there are bargain buys that will all suddenly work out.

Alan Letang took over for Todd Gill mid season under Dale DeGray so it has been done before. It does feel a bit surprising to bring back the coaching staff but only time will tell if it was the right decision. Certainly didn't like the way the final month of the regular season went and I think overall the team didn't play to the level expected. Hopefully everybody has learned from the experience and comes into the new season hungry.

I look back to the start of the year before all the injuries piled up and before all the losses started, they were challenging to be the top seed in the west. So was he a bad coach then or did he become a bad coach later?

It was a wierd year, there was more injuries to key players then Ive ever remembered. If Nick Chenard doesn't get hurt, does he stay at a .920? If Deni Goure doesn't get hurt does he say at 1.3 pts a game? If Teddy Sawyer doesn't get hurt does he steady things? If Corbin doesn't get hurt does he elevate his game sooner? Same with Madden Steen, same with Kaleb Lawrence.

The entire second half of the season it seemed to be short lineups and moving guys around all over the lineup, a lack of stability and abit chaotic. They finished the year with 4D.

I think the coach showed enough in the first half of the game to be given some rope, Im not sure that he's nearly as bad as what we saw in the second half, but im also a half full type.

I think that's fair. Whole lot of what ifs involved but I can understand why some added rope can be called for. The one thing that bugged me about the first half as good as their record was, was that they consistently struggled to start games on time, often playing a flat opening period before turning it on.

Maybe our expectations were overly high. The coach himself said they had 40 wins as the goal which they fell well short of. Goaltending should be better this year, everybody is a year older and more experienced, more physically matured. Still some roster decisions to be worked out. We'll find out what they're made of in a few months time.

Agreed, I just remembered when they were 15-8 or whatever, there was little issues with the team. Then Bryant and Chenard get hurt in Erie and its a downfall since then.

I stand corrected.

So we have 2 examples in 30 seasons of Attack hockey. That's better than 0 and at least Dale has done it once.

Results from the U18 draft. Ethier had 21G and 23A in 41 games played. Elite Prospects lists him as a F/D so not sure how much of that production is from the blue line. Some pretty big production but looks to require some context to understand. Could be an interesting offensive defenseman type.

This is from a year ago.
It seems he may have switched to forward . Also appears he knows Ben Cormier.

I'm sure Sam, Jack and Brendan are all chuffed to get drafted.

We will see what they bring to training camp .
Wishing them all the best .

Was just about to share that tweet and you beat me to it lol. Some very good news and saves us from the will he or won't he report summer of 2023 conversation. Will be very interesting to see him at camp. DeGray seems pretty high on him and his future.
I did see a handful of complaining from a few that complain about everything, but other then that you are right. If Dale was less honest, it would not be such an issue.

Either way, its now done and we have him locked in :)

Might have to call him Nico Daddy. Geeze does he ever make Dale seem small standing next to him lol.

Interview between Addy and Fred Wallace. Interesting to hear who he trains with as it should help with his entry into the OHL. That's some good company to be around, especially as a bigger bodied forward. Can't rely entirely on his size advantage around men which should help bring out his skill set in training over the summer. He should be well positioned to hit the ground running in the fall.
