There's definitely 15 goals in him.. he has a very good shot. He has a lot of very good offensive tools that will project well down the middle at the 3rd center spot along with his smarts, skating, face-off game and already matured defensive game.

His production is going to take off again when he gets traded now that the WJCs are over.
I hope you're right. I like the mature game and would be very happy with Danault-like offensive production.

Still can’t get over the fact that I bought a Steelhead’s ticket so I could take my son to see Beck play live - only to have him get traded days before the game happened.
A good father would have anticipated this! :sarcasm:

Reminds me of when I bought tickets to see Tri-City versus the Vancouver Giants and bought tickets in the Giants attacking end for the 1st and 3rd to specifically watch Price and arrived to the game to learn he was backing up that night. I was taking my dad too.

OMG some people in this thread don't know how good Owen Beck is really is. Just come on!! His game will translate so well at NHL level, he have a shot of a 20-25 goalscorer. His passing ability is good enough to put 20-25 assists per season. This guy will be such a important player.

With his combination of speed, shot and intensity of play, Beck has much more offensive potential than many here are giving him.
I’m not super high on his offensive upside but I still agree. Peterborough has likely skewed his production.

I like that I heard he was showing good passing in this tourney. He might not have high end hands or creativity but players with his speed and shot can still produce.

I loved the pick at the time. I cooled a bit but I still think he’s gonna be a player that likely makes us better at worst.

Had he been considered a high offensive upside pick he would have been picked much higher. Most second rounders become nothing special.

What I can see happen if he gets traded from the Pete’s would be something similar to Guhle’s trade where we saw him look a lot better offensively.

I believe there’s more offense at the pro level than his Peterborough stats have indicated.

Beck has NHLer written all over him, the question is just how good will he be? There's no way to know, but he's got NHL skating/speed to go with a very solid two way game and a shot that will get his fair share of goals. I hope they don't rush him just because he's good defensively and at FO's.
You and WTK have mentioned his shot. I'm skeptical about his offense, but I trust you and WTK's judgement when it comes to prospects, so I am slightly more optimistic.

Is Beck a player that gets a lot of puck touches or does he mostly play away from the puck? Just asking because a guy like Danault was able to produce points at the nhl because he frequently had the puck in transition or off the cycle, which coverted to points. I wonder if Beck would be a point producer in a similar fashion.

Not to be a contrarian, over the past year and a half, I have watched Beck play about 40 times. He will bring many attributes to the Canadiens including above average speed, defensive awareness/ responsibility; robust physicality, elite face-off skills and the ability to score off the rush. He has one of the best shots in the OHL.

During the recent WJC, it was interesting to hear announcer Mike Johnson's reaction to Team Canada's possible loss of Beck through injury as being, in Johnson's words, a potential 'massive loss to Team Canada'. Beck brings a lot of tangibles to any team. He makes any team faster and tougher. He play's fast and furious. He is fearless as aptly demonstrated in the recent WJC where he took a lot of heavy checks to make a play for his team.

While he will never be a high scorer, Beck is the type of player that you need to win. I am confident Beck will be a core player for the Canadiens going forward and will produce offensively at a much higher rate than many here think.

This all sounds great and I agree his skills set is needed but I am numb to getting excited over 3rd line players.

How would you compare him to Chipchura?
Back in the day, we were saying similar things about him. (pre-injury)

It takes at least three lines to win in the NHL today. Beck is more than that. He'll kill penalties, play 4 on 4, overtime and against other team's best lines. His presence will raise the team's speed median. What more can you expect from a second round draft choice?

Is that good or bad?

<= clueless about OHL teams without Habs prospect.
I was at the Saginaw game dec 6th in niagara.. Beck is exactly what they are lacking to make a run to the memorial cup.
They are basically handing the team to Beck to lead.. if this is not a confidence boost, it sure will see Beck start to rack more points..

Parekh is also a Defender (offensive puck mover) that should be available for Habs to select with our 1st.. incredibly smart, sound player..
Misa didnt have a great night, and yet still got 3A and 3rd star..

Do they have any centres better than him?

Just to be clear, if Beck racks up more points in Saginaw it absolutely dies not signal development. People around here act as though they are accruing xp points and levelling up in a video game and are too obsessed with point totals.

I was among his biggest supporters pre and post draft so this is not a pessimistic take, just a dose of reality.....
