Yes. No doubt. But can he create the same time and space playing against larger, stronger and faster players he will competing against in the NHL? Its one thing to be able to succeed against OHL teenagers. Quite another to do the same playing against Pietrangelo, Theodore, Hedman, Letang, etc.
but remember his training camp and exhibition games

he was the one prospect and by far that looked to translate the better his game into NHL level, if we had empty roster spots, he would've made the team out of that camp.

good thing he in the OHL this year but I'm not worried about him getting the next step as early as next year

Wait are we talking about HHOF Guy Carbonneau? Way to set your standards low...
Lol. Hey, I said its early yet.

Just seems this kid brings a lot to the table. And he is a smart player by the sounds of it.

Having a quick release is especially important in todays NHL because few guys can regularly blow a puck past a goalie who is set these days. Goalies are just too good. So unless there is a screen, redirection or banging in a rebound, a quick release is vital, like Caufield. So if Beck has that quick release as well as an accurate shot, that is a big deal. Part of KKs failing is he does not have a quick release. so goals are hard for him to come by. And not scoring goals due to a poor shot makes it harder to be an effective centre, and certainly not a top 6C.

Farrell-Beck-???

Need to figure out the big shutdown with skills winger to compliment them on a 3rd line.
Anderson ?

I am not writing this to call anyone out. But I distinctly remember many posters being absolutely furious about this pick in the draft GDT. Again, I didn't take names as I thought it was a pretty funny reaction

I personally didn't know him either, but I am glad that the team made their homework on that one.
Beck had first round potential. Habs are lucky to have picked him in the 2nd. same for Hutson.

He has two tools which are really high level: speed, and his shot.

I've only had a fleeting look from his training camp, but one thing that immediately struck me was his puck pursuit. He seemed like a real menace to play against because he was good at causing turnovers and putting pressure on the defense.

Can't tell by what Beck is doing in junior. Could be next Connor McMichael. Had great junior career, hit the pros and done little

Three tools -- F/O skills as well!

a better Brent Gretzky, for sure. ;)

Heineman.
Heineman is not a bad idea the way he looks.

I am sure the blender will be in overdrive in Montreal for the next couple of years anyway until the right line combos are found with the inflow of talent we have coming.

Sure he might bust, but he had a pretty good camp, and better for him to be producing well this year than not producing. We have had so many years where one by one each draft pick fails, that we could use a few home runs. Beck may not be that, but so far he looks like a pretty good dart.

Interesting that they picked beck over del bel beluz even tho the latter had more points by a wide margin, obviously looking at qualities they covet over points. …. Now beck has one more point than DBB, so they get both.

Looking like the right pick so far!

I would like to think his floor is a Guy Carbonneau. I know its way too early, but this guy has talent and he seems grounded and has a work ethic.

Excuse me? Carbo is literally a hall of famer.

I think Heineman could be good with them.

I read that Beck is a potential future 3rd line Center. Is his upside more than 3rd line?
Wondering the same.

If his form to date this season isn’t just some hot streak and he continues as he has been doing, we may have our 2nd line center right here even if when he begins at the NHL level, he may not get deployed there initially.

He has the potential to be 2nd line center imo, but having a potential 2C on your 3rd line is a luxury we may have

That’s what several posters are thinking and it’s understandable since he’s never put up these kind of numbers over a full season.

What if there’s more under the hood? Gonna be fun finding out.
