Just got back from the Sudbury/Mississauga game and wow Beck looks awesome in person. I sat behind the net at ice level and got some good slow-mo videos of Beck including his assist. I tried uploading it here but it failed (probably too big) but if @montreal wants to include them in his prospect highlight videos (thanks for those btw) send me a PM and I'll figure out how to get it to you.

All in all Mississauga looked awful to start but got better as the game went on. I thought Beck played really well though. One thing I noticed is how intense of a competitor he is. He was constantly engaging in board battles down low and trying to generate offense from down low to out front or to up high. He won a lot of board battles and did so many little things right. Its interesting because lots of people expected DelBelBelluz to go higher than Beck last year but I didn't see DelBelBelluz down low once and didn't see him win any board battles. It's probably those little details that push a guy like Beck higher than Del Bellbeluz.

Becks goal was a nice shot but I thought the goalie should have had it. His pass was a good skate from low to high and then dropped it counter cycle. What jumped out to me beyond how hard he competes was his passing game though. Multiple times he successfully completed passes thru a few layers of defense. His most impressive play of the night was a beautiful pass from below the goal line through a super small seem right to the point that resulted in a chance, I couldn't believe he saw that opportunity and got the pass thru and wish it had resulted in a goal.

Anyway, the tldr is this guy is a gamer, he is a competitor, and he passes well, and I think he projects very well.

I think at this point he's our top prospect. He's THAT convincing.
It's between him, Mesar, Hutson, Farrell, and Mailloux. (as Slaf and Guhle have graduated).

I'd probably go Beck. Montreal Hockey Now's Marc Dumont went Hutson.

But I look forward to seeing Farrell on a line with Slafkovsky later this year...

Since Slafkovsky and Guhle are graduated... I really think that Owen Beck is the best prospect for Habs. He is too good. It's close between him with Mesar, Mailloux, Hutson and Farrell, but Owen Beck looks like a stud type of prospect. He can do anything on ice... already 12 goals in 15 games (his 15th games isn't over too). I would not be surprise if he can have the same impact of Bo Horvat or Robert Thomas... this guy is a real deal!

I don't think there can be a debate now that he is our top prospect unless Hutson gains 2 to 4 inches by this summer then it's a close one

Wow, I had lost track of the stats and didn't realize his goals per game was that high. What a beauty. I agree with the narrative, every year or two there's someone end of first/beginning of second who just pops and I feel like this drafts version is Owen Beck

I think Beck is the perfect 3rd line center in the making on a contender while Mesar projects as a very good top 6 winger. Mesar has elite skating/speed, a transitional beast with some very quick hands, processing speed and passing skills. Im expecting Mesar to produce more pts at the NHL level while Beck being an elite shutdown center with 40-50 pts potential. Both are great prospects and bring different elements to the franchise going foward.

I don't see why Beck would be ahead of Farrell at this point in time.

13 goals in 15 games is great, but Farrell has also been putting up great stats since being drafted.
In his d+1 year: 101 pts in 53 ushl games
In his d+2 year: 28 pts in 24 NCAA games, 3 g 6 pts in 4 Olympic games, 6 pts in 10 World Championship games

A bit of a slower start this year, but I expect him to have a huge season.

Farrell is looking great but Beck is doing even better. We're lucky to have so many good prospects.

Farrell is a good prospect but I think Beck is better.

Let's not forget that his D+1 season was on likely the most stacked USHL team in the history of the league due to the pandemic and kids who were not supposed to be there anymore like Farrell stayed an extra season and dominated much weaker competition.

I also read somewhere that his NCAA production was very heavily weighted by blowing out the bad teams while not producing nearly as much against the good teams.....same with the Olympics. I am not crapping on the kid, just saying that there does need to be some context with his stats (this does need verification however as I could be misremembering)

Beck is bigger, faster and stronger than Farrell and will likely transition to the pros more easily. I am really excited to see how Farrell handles the pro game, as much like Beck, he is very intelligent and has an intriguing skill set.

I personally have Beck and Mesar as our two best prospects outside of the NHL but Farrell could potentially jump into that tier. They are all great prospects and it will be fun watching them develop.
