Mete got me good. I remember telling my Calgary friend how awesome he is going to be
yeah I forgot to mention him in the 'things you're wrong about thread' hahaha. God I thought he was gonna be a 2nd pairing guy for sure. Hell I thought he was in the 2nd season. Mea culpa

When you rush players they naturally are forced to skip Development steps.
By the same token, were Bergeron or ROR rushed?

Not saying Beck will be as good as those guys but we have more than enough competent brain power and experience in management to make that determination.

We need to trust the process. They’re not burning a kid just for the hell of it and they won’t proceed on any decision without due diligence. This is not the prior administration — they’ve built a contingent using a vast array of resources, which we’re not privy to unfortunately.

At least, I’m comfortable that any decision taken will have gone through a thorough evaluation.

I was answering the reason why Mete never improved. 4th rounders in the NHL at 18 makes no sense and it hurt Mete. He had alot to learn. Beck may be different although I don't think he is ready.

Well, there is what we think as outside observers without the benefit of all the data and expertise management relies upon and the thorough evaluative process that will beget a final determination.

We also don’t know what other player moves they have in mind prior to announcing final cuts. We shall see.

I’m with you on Mete. He was rushed but it’s also the case of a player with limited upside that was made to play outside his comfort zone. It was a lose-lose proposition.

Agreed. What is being rushed for one player is not necessarily the same for another.

We do know bargain bin was a clown. He derailed a few young careers.

Congrat kid, deserved!

Habs have already signed three of their 2022 draft picks.

He finally broke the Timmins second round curse, that deserves an ELC in itself. If Slaf, Mesar, Beck and Hutson all hit their marks it could turn into one of our best crops ever. If one of the other picks turns into any sort of a pro it will be pure gravy on top for that year. THIS is how you turn a franchise around my friends.

This kid is an absolute f***ing gem. Looks like a vet out there.

Not necessarily a knock on Slafkovsky, but if I were tuning in for the first time in years and someone told me the 2022 1st overall pick was playing in this game, I’d put my money on that guy being Owen Beck.

He’s going to play, and he’s going to be a very impactful player, especially on the defensive end. If he develops his offensive game, and I’m already seeing many positive things, this kid is going to one of the better two-way players in the league. I’m that high on him.

I don’t think anyone could have predicted this.

I had Owen Beck 16th on my list. For me this counts as a steal for the Habs.

Wouldn't it be better to get the same player later? Duh.

Owen Beck is actually a better defensive player than Shane Wright. He reads the play just as well but he is significantly stronger and wins his battles all over the ice with remarkable ease and consistency. A good comparable is Anthony Cirelli.

Well some posts sure age well

Extremely impressive player in preseason compared to his junior production. Really high on him, I believe the Cirelli comparison is good.

Eager to see how he can build on that and dominate the OHL.

How was this guy not a 1st round pick?

* 51 pts with 21 goals in 68 games as a 17 year old and his 1st season in the OHL. Then 6 pts with 1 goal in 10 playoff games.

* Solid size at 5'-11" and 190 lbs. Well on his way to filling into his frame

* Solid skater and hard worker.

Those early 2nd rounders are very valuable! Lots of NHL players come from the 30-45 (+/-) pick range. Habs have hit with Subban (43), Romanov (38), and maybe now with Beck (33).

Ready for the NHL or not, I rather let him play out his CHL seasons.

I would't be surpise if they give him a chance to make the team next year. Monahan won't be here and not sure Dvorak will be here too.

This Beck thing has 100% accelerated the Dvo trade situation
I actually like Dvo but Beck has a chance to be waaay better
And I can totally see him make the team next year at 19, he and Evan's interchanging 3C/4C all year long

Not to derail this thread about other players but got’damn imagine that C lineup with Suzy and Dach potentially taking another step this year

PLUS we are assuming we get a top-5 pick this year, maybe throw a little Leo Carlsson in there. Damn.

Super pumped to see Beck in the OHL and at the WJC this year

This year will be the sad year to watch. Next year we will have Slaf after a year in the AHL, potentially a top 5 pick, Beck, and a slew of young Dmen with another year of experience vying for a spot on the team like Xhejak, Barron, Mailloux. That will be exciting.
