Ovechkin plays in a sort of renaisance for goal scoring. Yea the 80's were extremely high, but Ovi can count himself lucky he wasn't playing from 95-05 all that much eh...
Why wouldn’t his goal scoring be just as dominant during that era? Jagr was the top goal scorer within those years with 412, yet never lead the league in goals, all while Iginla, Bondra, Selanne, and Bure lead the league in goals twice. Is Ovechkin not as good of a goal scorer as these guys? He has already proven to be IMO.

I dont think you understand that there are other things in hockey than just scoring goals. Ovie might as well be the best goal scorer ever but he is quite far away from the best players.

Well first, the conversation was about goal scoring, second, his trophy case says differently. Try to keep up :thumbu:

Ovy did it all in his cup run, a physical beast , blocking shots, puck hound all over the ice.People seem to forget how dominant he was during that run. Plus he sprung the series clinching goal in the penguin series.

Malkin carried Crosby to Cups scoring more than him 2 times of 3.
Just cant get ongoing attempts of this guy to make team achievements looking as personal.
Ovie never had somebody who performs at playoffs as Malkin. One of th Elite league centers

Uhhh... Kuznetsov was their best player in their Championship run? Backstrom is better than any wing Crosby consistently played with besides Guentzel now for two years.

yes peak Ovi...usually when you're in your mid to late 20's that's where you're at.
Yes, the caveat being Dale Hunter who actively tried to neuter the most offensively gifted player of the generation by making him block shots and slashing his ice time across the board. Yes.

No he wasn't and he was amazing. The space Ovechkin afforded his linemattes and the powerplay throughout that run was unseen by any other player in the league. The vacuum Ovechkin had just opened everything up. A few more secondaries doesn't take away from leading the entire playoffs in goals, being a physical monster and driving play everywhere. The guy gauranteed victory in a series his team was down 2-0 in and then delivered on that, constantly set the pace in the second round with early and timely goal scoring, again scored massive goals in series the Capitals were huge underdogs in against the Bolts, he was easily the Conn Smythe winner and not remotely the most questionable one of modern cup history.

goat goal scorer, but someone who puts up 30 apples a year is not top 10
What a horrible opinion, so compiling 50 secondaries and scoring 25 goals is somehow more valuable than a guy who scores 50+ a season? The slob knobbing about assists over goal scoring in the modern NHL is pretty embarrassing. Yes, it's Ovechkin's fault no one else on his line can put the puck in the net and the entire teams powerplay is dog doodoo unless he blasts it passed the goaltender.

Kuznetsov had more points and better +/- on the 2nd line. He was better and way more important to that Cup. Malkin hasn't done that for Crosby since their 1st Cup over a decade ago. And even then Malkin had 5 more points but Crosby had +9 to Malkins +3 so it's debatable.

You can't even accurately state which line Kuznetsov played on (hint: it wasn't the 2nd line), and simultaneously you claim to be an authority on their impacts.

You just confirmed (again) that you don't know what you are talking about.

Ya you didn't watch and Kuznetsov was the first line C bud.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you probably shouldn't comment about games you clearly didn't watch.

Edit: not just regarding the caps. Malkin had more pts and a better +/- than Crosby in their 17 cup win too, so clearly you have no idea what you're talking about in general. You should probably quit right now lol.

How the greatest goal scorer of all time is not Top 10 would be beyond me.

And the Crosby vs. Ovechkin debate has rarely been worthwhile outside of team success. Certainly with things like the Olympics.

Crosby has less Hart trophies for crying out loud with only 2 Art Rosses to Ovechkin's 8 Richards.

You measure players with their peers. Ovechkin by career is a greater goal scorer than anyone before him including Lemieux. That doesn't mean prime for prime I take Ovechkin over Lemieux but different eras really can't know for certain.

Prime for prime Gretz is not even Top 5 forwards in my books but can't argue with his career.

Ovechkin could retire with most goals and 10 league leads (I don't think he could get 2 more seasons after this if he even got this year). The titles would be held against him but a 2nd one should be enough.

And comparing 3 different positions is hard as goaltenders are objectively more valuable but rarely get the same recognition.

In terms of value, Roy & Hasek would be above anyone else including even Orr considering length of career.

But gun to my head:

Gretzky
Lemieux
Howe
Ovechkin
Richard
Jagr
Orr
Bourque
Roy
Hasek

No order just who I'd put in.

1 point  Who won the Conn Smythe?

You said Malkin didn't have more pts or a better +/- than Crosby "in a decade". You were wrong. Be a man and own up, rather than switching the conversation. But seeing as how you completely ignored being called out on your Kuznetsov bs, I don't think you are capable of that.

And Malkin is better than any teammate Ovechkin has had, Malkin has also lead the Pens in playoff scoring twice and goals once with a smythe, also better than any of Ovechkins teammates. Keep being selective with your argument all you want, doesn’t change how bias your being.

Malkin had 28 points and 10 goals in the 2017 playoffs, apparently those goals and points didn’t mean anything compared to Crosby

Crosby also had only 3 points in the finals and was a -5 while Malkin had 8 points in 7 games. Don’t let those facts get in the way of your story though
