I love Ovi as much as anyone, but let’s not go there lol. They’re gonna pass each other regularly, depending on who’s on a scoring streak.

Sid has played 160 ish fewer games too, this side of the argument is not in Ovi’s favor

I appreciate your objectivity in this situation.

To quote myself from another thread, as of mid April 2022 (when Crosby reached 1,400 points - a few days after Ovechkin):

Who was in the lead each day?
  • Total days that have passed since October 1st, 2005: 6,036
  • Number of days Ovechkin has been in the lead: 5,058 (83.8%)
  • Number of days Crosby has been in the lead: 933 (15.5%)
  • Tied: 45 (0.7%)
The lead "situation" (ie Ovechkin ahead, Crosby ahead, or a tie) has switched more than 40 times heading into this season (and I know it's changed a few times so far this year). It's probably not necessary for a new thread to be created every time one of them pulls ahead.

One of the many aspects I enjoy about HF are contributions like yours. Thank you for the work you put into this. It really puts things in perspective

Not fair, Crosby is 99 secondary assists ahead.
Can we take away all the empty net points, then divide their ice time by their time on the PK, add the length of their respective sticks, and, lastly, subtract the number of times they were offside in their careers, in order to finally end thus debate? Maybe not?

16. Teemu Selanne 1457 Points
17. Alex Ovechkin 1455 Points
18. Sidney Crosby 1452 Points

What Alex Ovechkin is accomplishing this year as a 37 year old is nothing short of amazing. I remember years ago, fans said that there was no chance Ovechkin could pass Crosby in total points. Here we are years later and Ovechkin's longevity and dominance has allowed to surpass one of the greats at scoring points. With the Capitals recent run, don't be surprised to hear Ovechkin mentioned as the MVP soon. No Backstrom, No Tom Wilson, No TJ Oshie. He is still leading the Capitals to the playoffs without any of his highly paid supporting cast.
Such disrespect by Teemu to stop at 1457.

Might have to do with the Caps sheltering Ovechkin in competition and starts. He has only 14 defensive zone starts this season at ES

Perhaps Pitt should consider rethinking how they deploy Crosby considering how many goals he’s hemorrhaging at ES?

...He's played 160 less games. He'd be ~200 points ahead of they had the similar games played.
But he didn't. One of the greatest things about ovi is how resistant to injury he is. Its an asset to his team because of the amount of games he played. Crosby has the opposite issue. I don't really think having a higher PPG because you had more injuries is argument to claim you're a superior player.

OV just passed Selanne. He is still ahead of Crosby. I think he will stay ahead permanently at this point.

One is a true Hart candidate.

and still 400 goals behind almost
But has the most consistent ppg seasons and which is 18 seasons straight off ppg, the only others are Howe and Gretz. Which is more impressive then scoring goals.

Ovechkin has led the league in actual goals scored 9 times. No one has ever done that. That is certainly more impressive in however many PPG seasons that only ever led to 2 actual scoring titles.

Longevity is definitely in Ovi's favor if Sid has played fewer games yet they started their careers at the same time.

" I remember years ago, fans said that there was no chance Ovechkin could pass Crosby in total points"

They have literally been going back and forth for a decade and will continue to do so for the next few years, undoubtedly.

Who is Crosby?
This is type of comment I would thumb down, if there would an option to do so.

And in this eternal Ovi-Crosby debate It is f***ing clear who comes above when it is all said and done.

It is Crosby, but not by his hockey deeds. By Hockey it has been already some 10 years Ovi's burger.
